EC Softball Victorious In Blowout, Baseball Team Falls Short

The Ellwood City girls softball team exploded for 10 hits en route to a 15-0, mercy rule-shortened victory over Blackhawk on Monday at Stiefel Park.  The Lady Wolverines plated four runs in the first and two in the second before a nine-run third inning put the game quickly out of reach.

Anna Ferrucci and Angie Nardone collected multiple hits for Ellwood City while four Wolverines knocked in multiple runs.  Ferrucci, Nardone, Makinley Magil, and Kyla Servick all posted two RBIs as part of a balanced offensive attack.  Every Wolverine starter reached base at least once in the contest.

Madi Krugh collected the victory on the mound for the Lady Wolverines. Krugh struck out four Cougars and walked two batters over three innings.

Ellwood City Wolverines Fall Short To Armstrong, 4-1

The Ellwood City varsity baseball team fell to Armstrong at home on Monday by a score of 4-1.  The Wolverines struggled at the plate, collecting only two hits in the home defeat.

Caleb Harriger was the winning pitcher for Armstrong. He allowed one hit and zero runs over six innings, striking out five and walking one. Eddie Morris threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Ryan Gibbons took the loss for Ellwood City.

Gibbons went three innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out four. Samuel DiCaprio started the game for the Wolverines. DiCaprio went three innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits and striking out one before leaving the scoreless game.

DiCaprio and Doug Balin each collected one hit to lead the Wolverines (0-2 Overall).
