Boyfriend Leaves Girlfriend With Swollen Eye On Monday, November 26, Pennsylvania State Police were called to a home on Mill Bridge Road in Slippery Rock Township at 8:18 p.m. on reports of a boyfriend beating his girlfriend. The victim called police with the report that she and her boyfriend, Dwayne Okeson, 39, had been in an argument when things got physical. She said that Okeson had choked her, punched her, and grabbed her by the back of the head. She said that these actions had happened in the home’s sunroom. VIDEO: Multi-Vehicle Crash In Slippery Rock Township

According to multiple news reports, a nine-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer closed down parts of Route 422 in Slippery Rock Township Wednesday evening. According to video reports, numerous vehicles, including a New Castle Transit bus, were stopped at a red light at the intersection of Routes 422 and 388 (near Sheetz) when a tractor-trailer did not slow down before ramming into the last stopped vehicle. It created a chain reaction causing the vehicles to slam into one another. Multiple injuries were reported. Mount Airy Casino Public Hearing Next Week

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will hold a public hearing next week for the proposed Mount Airy Casino planned to be built in Big Beaver Borough next year. According to the application made available earlier this week, the proposed 110-acre site will be located on the north side of 1-76, east of 1-376 and south of Fairlane Boulevard. It is proposed to construct a casino facility consisting of 40 gaming tables (10 seats per table) and 750 slot machines, resulting in 1,150 gaming positions. Tax Collector December Office Hours

The Tax Office would like to remind everyone that starting Tuesday, December 4, office hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The office will be open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Reminder that after Saturday, December 15 the office will not be accepting business or personal checks. They will only accept money orders, bank checks, or cash.

Borough Offers Free Two-Hour Parking

As Ellwood City prepares for the holiday season, the Borough Council announced free, two-hour holiday parking beginning November 24th and extending to December 31st. The free parking will be offered at metered spaces along Lawrence Avenue, Bellow Avenue, and Crescent Avenues as well as Fifth Street, Sixth Street, and Seventh Street. The Beaver Avenue parking lot will also be included in the holiday parking and receive two hours of free parking for local shoppers. “Celebration of HOPE Ball” Ticket Information

The Club Hope Foundation is hosting their inaugural “Celebration of HOPE Ball” on Saturday March 30, 2019. Morella Among Four Named To All-Region XX Volleyball Squad

(Butler, PA) – Ellwood City graduate Madison Morella was among four players on a Butler County Community College volleyball team crowned in October as the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Region XX champions are among nine selections to the All-Region XX squad. Setter Mackenzie Craig, of Karns City; middle hitter Emily Magusiak, of New Castle; and right-side hitter Makenzie McDowell, of Knoch, were named to a seven-member first team; and middle hitter Morella, was one of two players chosen as honorable mention. Armistice Day Ceremony Held

On Sunday, November 11, 2018, a ceremony was held on the steps of the Ellwood City Borough Building commemorating 100 years since the end of WWI, also known as Armistice Day. The event was planned by Mayor Anthony J. Court with the assistance of Sam Teolis. Cosmo Morabito gave the invocation and Bob Morabito read a poem honoring all veterans. Descendants of the Ellwood City servicemen who served in WWI were recognized and thanked for the service their ancestors gave to our country.
