Hitched And Unhitched; Spring Into Love

Springtime means warmer weather, blooming flowers, iced drinks, and outdoor activities. Although our spring was wet with rain, love was in the air. Riverside Senior Shines But Misses Cut For U.S. Junior Amateur Golf Championship

Justin Hand, a soon-to-be-senior at Riverside High School, finished with a second-round 77 last Tuesday, missing the cut after his first two rounds (76+77=153) at the 2019 US Junior Amateur Championship. Hand had qualified for the tournament after finishing first in a field of 46 golfers at a sectional qualifier held in June at Grove City Country Club. Three players finished -4 to top the leaderboard after two days. Ellwood City Library To Host A Creative Writing Group

Starting August 14th, the Ellwood City Library will kick off this year’s Creative Writing Group. This group has been taught by Nancy Wallace for the past 12 years and meets every two weeks. Wallace holds a BA in English Lit and has had 19 traditionally published children’s books, along with a young adult fantasy series called The Wolves of Llise published by Harper Collins, UK. “The program is very rewarding for me and has sparked a lot of friendships over the years,” said Wallace. “I enjoy moderating it very much!” The group holds students from grades 6 through 12 who…

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include WEDNESDAY, JULY 24 9:30 a.m. – “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. Coming Soon To Main Street

Ellwood City has its fair share of good places to sit down and eat on days where no one feels like cooking. There’s something for everyone and the list just got a tad bigger. What was previously known as Main Street Bar and Grill is now under new management as Mike’s Main Street Bar and Grill. Upcoming Events At Holy Redeemer

Holy Redeemer would like to announce that they will be holding three events soon. The first is their annual Pilgrimage to the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady Lourdes in Euclid, Ohio on Thursday, September 12. Departure from the Catholic Center Parking lot will be at 8:00 a.m with a return time of around 4:30 p.m. Cost is $40 a person. Payment and reservation is due by September 6. Riverside’s Hand Finishes Strong In Opening Round at US Junior Amateur Championship

Riverside’s Justin Hand posted an opening-round 76 (+5) on Monday in the 72nd U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at historic Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. After struggling on the front nine of the round, including posting a triple-bogey, Hand settled down and fired a two-under 34 on the back-nine to level out to his first-round 76. The round sets him tied for 64th place out of 156 golfers. Koppel Bridge To Close In August

According to PA Department of Transportation officer Steve Cowan, a tentative closure date of the current 102-year-old Koppel Bridge is scheduled for August 13.  The closure is for 72 consecutive days. “During this time we will be constructing a retaining wall and doing approach roadway grading, drainage, paving, guide rail, line painting, any remaining bridge work, some demo to the old structure and planting/seeding work,” said Cowan in email. Traffic has been maintained on the existing bridge during the construction of the new bridge but now will be forced to detour while the new, $27.58 million dollar bridge works closer…
