POLICE REPORTS: Fraud, Theft, and Local Disturbance

Local Women Loses $529 Due To Fraud On Monday, March 18 at 11:09 a.m., an elderly woman called the Ellwood City Police to report four pending transactions on her card that she did not make. These transactions include two for $30 from Barnes & Nobles and two plain $30 transactions, and a final unknown transaction for $529. The police are currently still investigating this after they had received official bank statements from the woman. “Dog Gone” Bar & Restaurant Grand Opening

On Friday, March 15, Ellwood City Mayor, Borough Council Members, and an Ellwood Chamber representative attended the Grand Opening for the newest Ellwood City business, “Dog Gone” Bar and Restaurant. Dog Gone, located at 225 1st Street, features an outstanding menu that includes lamb chops and fish sandwiches as well as meatball sandwiches.  The owner Tim O’Brien and Mayor Court have been longtime friends and Court expressed how proud he is of both O’Brien and Hiler and wishes them both luck and success on this new adventure. Library Activities For The Week Of March 18

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include MONDAY, MARCH 18 1:30 p.m. – “Afternoon Book Group for Adults,” they will be discussing the book “Underground Railroad” by Colson Whitehead. Toxic Trash Disposal Day Announced For Franklin & Marion Townships

Residents living in the Franklin and Marion Townships will be able to drop off their household hazardous and electronic waste “the right way” on Saturday, April 6 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Those who wish to participate can drop their items off at the Franklin Township Municipal Building. Registration is required for this event, so visit the ECSR website or call 866-815-0016.  50 registrants are required for the event to take place. Items to bring are household chemicals including paint, paint thinner, cleaning products, pesticides, car & household batteries, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, pool chemicals, oil, anti-freeze, flammables, etc….

Potential New Drug Testing Policy At Riverside

On Monday, the Riverside community gathered in the Riverside High School cafeteria for an Informational Night for parents. The topic of discussion was Riverside’s possible new Drug Testing Policy. Parents with children in all grades came out to give their opinion on the subject at matter, and while some seemed to support it, the rest had more questions rather than support. The policy would target Riverside students in grades 7 through 12. Specifically, it would be aimed at students who drive and or participate in Riverside sports, however, students in the band would not be subject to these tests. According…

“The Tamburitzans” (formerly the Duquesne University Tamburitzans) will perform their new production, PRISM – Full Spectrum Culture, at the Lincoln Junior/Senior High School on Sunday, March 31th at 3:00pm. Walley Takes 4th Place At PIAA Wrestling Tournament

Ellwood City junior wrestler Austin Walley finished 4th overall in the 182-pound weight class in the PIAA Class AA Wrestling Tournament held at the GIANT Center in Hershey, PA. Walley used a 10-2 decision over Kaleb Kamerer of Slippery Rock and a 9-6 decision over Hunter O’Connor of Jersey Shore Area to advance early in the tournament.  The victories set up a rematch with Bryson Miller of Freedom Area in the semifinal. Miller, however, earned his revenge earning his first victory in four tries against Walley, knocking off Walley 3-2 in an ultimate tie-breaker. It was the second time this season…
