Library Activities For The Week Of April 8

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include MONDAY, APRIL 8 6:30 p.m. – “Classic Book Group for Adults,” they will be discussing the book “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” by Ira Levin. TUESDAY, ARIL 9 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. – “Family Laptime,” designed for babies as young as 6 months of age, toddlers and preschoolers. Thomas S. Houk, 63

On Wednesday, March 13, 2019, Thomas S Houk, age 63, passed into God’s care. He was born in Ellwood City, PA on May 2, 1955, to Blaine and Nancy (Markle) Houk. Tom is survived by his children, Kylee Houk, Thomas Houk Jr; Kylee’s son, Kyson, all of New Castle, PA; siblings, Becky Mondi, Jim (Nancy) Houk, Bill (Patti) Houk, Polly Houk, Dorothy Houk; nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Pat Houk. Arrangements by Cremation & Funeral Service by Gary S Silvat Inc.

Wolverines Tennis Defeats Beaver Falls

Ellwood City earned a 4-1 team victory during Mondays boy’s tennis match between Ellwood City and Beaver Falls. Leading the Wolverine singles was Alex Scott who won two clean 6-0 sets against his Beaver Falls opponent. Ellwood’s Max Kuffer also won his singles match (6-1, 6-2), which helped lead the Wolverines to the 4-1 team victory. During doubles action, Ellwood City’s Bradon Barr and Devin Lust came back from an opening set defeat to win the last two sets 6-4 and 6-4 to collect a match victory. POLICE REPORTS: Bar Fights And Assaults

Bar Side Assualt. Michael Johnson was just spending his Thursday night playing pool at the Breakers Bar in Ellport on Thursday, March 28, when Mark Beachum Jr. came in and caused a little ruckus. According to a police report, Johnson was leaving when Beachum attacked him. The force of Beachum’s attack brought Johnson to the ground as he sustained injuries to his head and body, luckily none of which were too serious. Beachum had confronted Johnson screaming about the money Johnson owed him from their years in high school. Police reported to the Ellwood City Hospital around midnight where they…

HOP TO IT: Ellwood City’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt Information

Come and enjoy a spring day with lots of eggs, candy, and prizes for all children. This year will mark the Ellwood Area Egg hunt Committee’s 24th annual Easter Egg Hunt. The hunt will be on Saturday, April 13th with a starting time for all scheduled events at 11:00 a.m. Any and all children 10 and under can participate in this event and are free. POLICE: Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Confiscation; Women Charged With Abuse Of Corpse

DUI Arrest Leads To Drug Confiscation  On Wednesday, March 26, 23-year-old Cody Crawford, of New Castle, was arrested after police pulled him over on 5th Street for reckless driving. Reports state Crawford was “on Lawrence Avenue traveling all over the roadway” in his 2018 Chevy Impala. He was spotted at a red light at the intersection at 5th Street and Spring Avenue, where he pulled into the furthest right parking space and waited for the light to turn green.  When it did turn green, Crawford continued on, straddling the yellow lines as he went. Scott Collects Victory, Wolverines Tennis Defeated

Alex Scott led the Wolverines tennis team with straight-set victory (6-4, 6-1) in his singles match versus Beaver Area on Tuesday at Ewing Park. The boys team, however, fell to the Bobcats 4-1 in team play. Doubles team of Andrew Busby and Daniel Rodgers fell (2-6, 0-6) to Bobcats team of Gil Hankison and Sammy Kissick while Wolverines doubles Dante Gidaro and Brandon Barr fell (0-6, 0-6) Tanner Tomak (0-6, 1-6) and Aden Busby (0-6, 0-6) were defeated in singles. EC Grad Skyla Greco Named PSAC West Softball Pitcher Of The Week

For the second time in her sophomore season, Skyla Greco has been named the PSAC West Softball Pitcher of the Week. The Seton Hill sophomore also earned the first award for this season from the league as well. Greco threw a no-hitter game during the second game of a doubleheader sweep of Wheeling Jesuit. She gave up only one unearned run during an error in the first inning to help keep the Cardinals hitless, finishing out the game with a strikeout six for the win. EC Junior High Wins Opener; Boys Baseball Fights Back For Victory

After showing some jitters over the first two innings and spotting the Tigers a 5-2 lead, the Lady Wolverines settled down and scored the next 15 runs to come away with a 5 inning mercy rule shortened victory.
