Positive Action Initiative At North Side

Starting this year, students at North Side school participated in a new kind of initiative. Principal Christine Gibson and her fellow co-works help the students practice positive action by teaching the students to be responsible, respectful, safe, and positive. In reward for following these four actions, students are given ‘blue slips’ which they can go and place in the positive action mascot Wolvie the Wolverine.

Each month students are gathered to attend an assembly to celebrate all of their positive actions. At these assemblies, students are rewarded for not only blue slips but for good attendance and having good citizenship in places like the cafeteria.

The monthly assemblies are tied into their ever-changing monthly “theme”. Decembers’ theme was giving back, their assembly was then decided to be their second Community Celebration to thank the Ellwood City community helpers.

Students K-2 all made simple thank you gifts to be presented by their 2nd Grade leaders to the community helpers who were in attendance. Representatives from the EC Police, Fire Department, representatives from the Borough and Borough Council, members of the school board, as well as cafeteria workers.

“Their positive actions make our school a great place to learn and our town a safe place to live,” said Principal Christine Gibson. “We know that when we do good we have positive thoughts, actions and feel good about ourselves.
