Lady Wolverines Collect Another Upset, Advance In WPIAL Playoffs

The Ellwood City Wolverines softball team rallied and nabbed the lead late in an 11-10 victory over South Allegheny on Monday in the second round of the WPIAL Class 3A playoffs. The victory over the #2 seed South Allegheny team was the Wolverines second consecutive extra-inning victory after knocking off Freeport last week. The game was tied at ten with Wolverines batting in the top of the ninth when senior Natalia Greco doubled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring the decisive run. Benefit Run Pig Roast

The Yellow Ribbon Girls and the American Legion Riders will be hosting a Benefit Run Pig Roast on Saturday, June 1. Donations from the benefit will help support not only the Yellow Ribbon Girls and the American Legion Riders, but the Navy Vietnam Veteran Rick Cantolina as well as many other veterans in need. Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. with motorcycles, cars, and trucks welcomed to sign up. The ride will begin at 12:00 p.m. with first bikes out and the last bikes out will be at 12:30. Riverside Boys Qualify For State Track & Field Championships

After taking home their third consecutive WPIAL Track & Field Championship, the Panther team victories seem to continue on. Ten boys on the track and field team have qualified for the state championships within eight relay and independent events. The relay teams going are the 4×800 relay team consisting of Ty Fluharty, Chase Grinnell, Garrett Safern, and Colby Belczyk placed 4th, the 4×100 relay took 2nd place, while also gaining a new school record of 43.55, which consisted of Brett Hart, Jackson Coyne, Nate Sciarro, Calvin Wetzel, and the 4×400 relay team consisting of Hart, Coyne, Wetzel, and Alex Nour…

Senate Approves Vogel Bill, Other “Farming First” Measures

The Senate approved a “Farming First” legislative package this week that will help promote and support Pennsylvania’s agriculture industry, according to Senate Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee Chairman Senator Elder Vogel (R-47). PHOTOS: Late Rally Spoils Softball Senior Night

After trailing for much of the game, a four-run rally by Ellwood City was later outdone by a 5-run final frame by Neshannock leading to a 10-7 road victory for the Lancers at Stiefel Park on Wednesday.
