Ellwood City Downs Saxonburg Behind Arm & Bat Of Lannis

Ellwood City downed Saxonburg, 12-6, in the 68th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field Wednesday night. Landis allowed one hit over four innings and smacked two singles and a double to lead Ellwood City. 

Ellwood City scored two runs in the top of the first inning.  Jordan Keller led off with a single, stole second base and scored on an RBI-single by Tristan Nash. Landis followed with a single and an out later Owen Andrews singled in Nash to open up a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the second inning, Ellwood City added another run. Luke Bleakney singled and went to second base on a ground out. Keller followed with an RBI-single up the lead to 3-0. Ellwood City widened the lead in the top of the third inning. Landis singled and Rondele Irving reached on an error. Andrews followed with a two-run double to raise the lead to 5-0. Andrews moved to third on a wild pitch and Anthony Barberio followed with a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 6-0. Ellwood City added on three more runs in the fourth inning. Jacob Biscup, Willy Nardone and Keller walked to load the bases. Two ground outs scored Biskup and Nardone and an RBI-double by Landis drove in Keller to raise the lead to 9-0. In the fifth inning,  Anthony Barberio reached on a fielder’s choice and Biskup followed with a single. Willy Nardone followed with a two-run triple to widen the lead to 11-0. 

Saxonburg scored four runs in the bottom of the inning. Xavier Voltz and Duncan Weifenbaugh reached base on singles. Logan Cypher followed with a triple scoring both runners to cut the deficit to 11-2. Kyle Krason followed with a double scoring Cypher to make the score 11-3. Krason came around to score on a wild pitch to reduce the Ellwood City lead to 11-4.

In the sixth inning, Ellwood City scored a single run. Nate Kennedy singled and Nash walked. After a fielder’s choice, Irving grounded out to score Kennedy to raise the lead to 12-4.  Saxonburg closed the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Jase Scott and Weidebaugh reached on walks. Easton Fundark also drew a base on balls to load the bases. Cypher followed with a two-run single to half the Ellwood City final margin to 12-6.

Landis led Ellwood City with a double, two singles and an RBI. Andrews doubled and singled with two RBI and Keller singled twice and walked. Nardone tripled and walked and drove in two runs. Nash doubled, walked and drove in a run. Biskup singled twice and Kennedy added a single.

Cypher led Saxonburg with a triple and single and four RBI. Krason doubled with an RBI.  Voltz and  Weifenbaugh added singles. 

Landis was the starting and winning pitcher. He went four innings and allowed one hit. He fanned six batters.

Ellwood City next plays Neshannock Friday night in tournament action. With a victory, Ellwood City would find themselves in the championship game of this double-elimination tournament.
