Ellwood City Downs Seneca Valley, Advances to Little League Championship

Ellwood City downed Seneca Valley North, 5-3, to advance to the finals of the 69th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field on Thursday night.  With some great play from rival Riverside, a rematch between the rivals could decide the championship.

On Thursday Ellwood City erased a 3-0 deficit with a five-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Jordan Keller smacked a two-run homer down the right field line to give Ellwood City a 4-3 lead. Carlo Nardone followed with a home run to center field to give Ellwood City a 5-3 lead. Winning pitcher Nate Kennedy threw three scoreless innings to seal the victory.

For Keller and Nardone, each home run was their second of the tournament after both went long in their victory over Riverside on Monday.

The victory for EC comes a day after Riverside used a 12-3 victory over Neshannock on Wednesday to continue to advance in the Little League Championship bracket.

Jackson Barber rapped three hits and was the winning pitcher and Alex Weisz  smacked a three-run homer and single to lead Riverside.

Riverside pulled away in the top of the fourth inning. Logan Young led off with a triple and Barber followed with a single scoring Young to up the lead to 8-2. Alex Weisz singled Barber to third base and Richards followed with a triple scoring Barber and Weisz to increase the Riverside lead to 10-2. McCartney Plassmeyer followed with an RBI-single to give Riverside an 11-2 lead.

Riverside will look to continue to advance on Friday with games against Neshannock at 6:00pm and, with a victory, a second game against Seneca Valley North scheduled for 8:00pm.  All games are at Friedhoff Field in Ewing Park.

With two victories, Riverside can advance to a championship game against undefeated Ellwood City.  The game would be a rematch from Monday when Ellwood City edged Riverside 7-6.
