POLICE: $1,000 Television Stolen From Women’s Home

$1,000 Television Stolen From Women’s Home.  On Sunday, February 24 at 10:52 p.m. Ellwood City police reported to an address on Fourth Street that was found to be the residence of Ashley Hall-Worrell. Worrell claimed that when she came home, she noticed the window on the south side wall of her living room had been removed and her 55 inch Samsung television had been taken from the wall. The television costs around $1,000. Police believe the break-in could have happened between Saturday, February 23 at 5:00 p.m. until Sunday, February 24 at 10:40 p.m. No suspects have been released at this time….


Hopping Into Ellwood Area’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt

This year will mark the Ellwood Area Egg hunt Committee’s 24th annual Easter Egg Hunt. The hunt will be on Saturday, April 13th with a starting time of 11:00 a.m. Any and all children 10 and under can participate in this event. The eggs will be hidden in Ewing Park this year. On top of these hunts, there will be a special needs hunt this year as well. The committee will be preparing for 700 children with 9,000 eggs being handed out. Agnes H. Zikeli, 96

Mrs. Agnes H. Zikeli, 96, of Ellwood City passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at the Ellwood City Medical Center. Mrs. Zikeli was born on June 24, 1922 in Beadling, Pa to the late Anthony and Marguerite (Leymarie) Leymarie. She had graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1940. During World War II she worked at the U.S. Steel Tube Mill in Ellwood City, and later as a beautician. She also worked as a sorter at Townsend for 20 years. Mrs. Mary Ann Thomas, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 21st. The daughter of the late Thomas and Mildred Warsing, Mary Ann was born on July 22, 1931, in the town of Alicia in Green County, Pennsylvania. She was a 1948 graduate of Slippery Rock Township High School in Princeton, PA. Mary Ann was Protestant by faith and was united in marriage to Ronald H. Thomas on June 17, 1969. Two Ellwood City Wrestlers Advance to PIAA State Championships

Two Ellwood City wrestlers have advanced to Hershey PIAA State AA Wrestling Championships.  Austin Walley collected a PIAA Class AA Southwest Regional runner up finish in the 182-pound weight class while fellow Wolverine Donavin Chambers placed 4th in his 132-pound weight class. Walley (33-3) earned an impressive come-from-behind victory over No. 2 Derek Yingling of West Branch in the semifinals to set-up a rematch with Mount Pleasant’s Dayton Pitzer in the 182-pound championship.  Pitzer had defeated Walley one week early in the WPIAL Individual Wrestling Tournament. The Ellwood City Bocce team is ‘rolling’ along with early season success. The team is currently 2-0, with victories against Grove City, the defending state champions, and Slippery Rock. Their latest victory, and win, had been against Slippery Rock on Thursday, February 14. The team went into a sudden death frame after both teams had been tied 3-3 when time ran out. Wolverines Fall To Carlynton In WPIAL Class 3A Playoffs

The Ellwood City girls basketball team made the most of their upset bid on Wednesday, but after battling all game against the higher seeded Cougars of Carlynton, the Wolverines finally fell 44-39 in their opening round match-up at North Hills. The teams were tied 18-18 at the half before Carlynton opened the second half with an 11-2 run. Three Ellwood Wrestlers Place At WPIAL Tournament, Advance To Regionals

Three Ellwood City wrestlers medaled at the WPIAL Individual Wrestling Tournament this past weekend and all will advance to the PIAA Class AA Southwest Regional tournament at the Ed Frey Arena, Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Friday and Saturday.
