Little Miss Firecracker Pageant

    Applications for this year’s Little Miss Firecracker pageant are open! This pageant, however, has only twenty spots for contestants to fill and the festival will only accept the first twenty applications that are filled out in full. This pageant is open to any girl age 5-7 living within a 15-mile radius of Ellwood City. Contestants must have a business sponsorship of $25, all businesses that sponsor will be recognized. Thomas S. Houk, 63

On Wednesday, March 13, 2019, Thomas S Houk, age 63, passed into God’s care. He was born in Ellwood City, PA on May 2, 1955, to Blaine and Nancy (Markle) Houk. Tom is survived by his children, Kylee Houk, Thomas Houk Jr; Kylee’s son, Kyson, all of New Castle, PA; siblings, Becky Mondi, Jim (Nancy) Houk, Bill (Patti) Houk, Polly Houk, Dorothy Houk; nieces and nephews. Wolverines Tennis Defeats Beaver Falls

Ellwood City earned a 4-1 team victory during Mondays boy’s tennis match between Ellwood City and Beaver Falls. Leading the Wolverine singles was Alex Scott who won two clean 6-0 sets against his Beaver Falls opponent. Ellwood’s Max Kuffer also won his singles match (6-1, 6-2), which helped lead the Wolverines to the 4-1 team victory. During doubles action, Ellwood City’s Bradon Barr and Devin Lust came back from an opening set defeat to win the last two sets 6-4 and 6-4 to collect a match victory. POLICE REPORTS: Bar Fights And Assaults

Bar Side Assualt. Michael Johnson was just spending his Thursday night playing pool at the Breakers Bar in Ellport on Thursday, March 28, when Mark Beachum Jr. came in and caused a little ruckus. According to a police report, Johnson was leaving when Beachum attacked him. The force of Beachum’s attack brought Johnson to the ground as he sustained injuries to his head and body, luckily none of which were too serious. DUI Arrest Leads To Drug Confiscation  On Wednesday, March 26, 23-year-old Cody Crawford, of New Castle, was arrested after police pulled him over on 5th Street for reckless driving. Reports state Crawford was “on Lawrence Avenue traveling all over the roadway” in his 2018 Chevy Impala. Alex Scott led the Wolverines tennis team with straight-set victory (6-4, 6-1) in his singles match versus Beaver Area on Tuesday at Ewing Park.
