Domenick William (Billy) DeCampli, 70

Domenick William (Billy) DeCampli, 70, of Zelienople passed away  May 9, 2020 following a brief illness.  Named after his two grandfathers, Dominic DeCampli and William Steffler “Billy” as he became known, was born in Ellwood City, Pa on March 21, 1950 to the late Nick and Laureen (Klear) DeCampli.  Billy graduated from Lincoln High School in 1968.  He was well known for his talented guitar playing, elaborate storytelling and recording talent.  He was an avid deer hunter.   Billy enjoyed entertaining people with his guitar playing and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. WPIAL Reveals New Basketball Sections for ’20-’21 Season

The WPIAL revealed updated boys and girls basketball section alignments Tuesday and Ellwood City and Riverside basketball teams each saw a slight turnover in their section opponents. For the boys, Ellwood City and Riverside both will continue to reside in Class 3A Section 1 with the likes of Beaver Falls, Laurel, Lincoln Park, Mohawk, and Neshannock. Section powerhouse Lincoln Park has a hearing with PIAA to decide if competitive balance should place the Leaopards in 4A, but if there is a successful appeal, Lincoln Park will remain in Section 1-3A. 2020 Mayor’s Beautification Awards To Commence

It’s that beautiful time of the year again! Mayor Anthony J. Court will be starting his “Beautification Award Program” in Ellwood City. This has been a trying year and now it’s time to bring life back to our neighborhoods. Mayor Court started this program 10 years ago and it has been a huge success. Bonnie L. Rubino, 62, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 17, 2020. Bonnie was born in Ellwood City, Pa., on September 30, 1957, to the late Joseph and Elaine (Fenechi) Yarzebinski. She attended Riverside High School, Class of 1975. She was currently employed at Cobb Cole in Daytona Beach, Florida. Bonnie loved and cherished her family more than anything, but especially her granddaughter, Kami Jae Rubino, who was the greatest joy of her life. Jack W. Lloyd, 96

Jack W. Lloyd, 96, of Medina Ohio passed away April 8, 2020. He was born in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, on December 17, 1923 to the late Lawrence David and Mildred Pauline McClelland Lloyd. Jack proudly served his country in WWII from 1943-1946. He was in the Third Armored Division, which was a Spearhead Unit (meaning they were the first in battle). He was captured and held P.O.W. by the Germans during the last six months of the war. Jack was an active member of the “Barbed Wire Buckeyes”, a P.O.W. group for WWII veterans, for many years. Word Alive Church Showcases Drive-In Easter Service

Word Alive Church celebrated Resurrection Day live never before on Sunday. The Ellwood City church offered its one hour service on Sunday via drive in and online. Drive-in guests parked their vehicles in respective spots facing the church and tuned their car radio to 88.3 FM to hear the worship service. All children (age 3-11) who attended received a special Easter gift bag. Overnight Storm Ravishes Ellwood City Area

Severe thunderstorms ravished the Ellwood City with high winds last night downing many trees, damaging homes, and businesses in the area. Overnight weather reports describe severe thunderstorms stretching into Ellwood City at 55 mph with wind gusts to 60 mphand quarter-size hail. A large tree toppled down on Glen Avenue damaging utility poles and wires. No injuries have been reported. Annual Earth Day Event Cancelled, Virtual Art Contest Announced

The Lawrence County Earth Day Committee announced the cancellation of the annual Earth Day festivities.  The event will be replaced with a virtual art contest. In the statement received this week, the committee stated, “We are committed to keeping our visitors safe and healthy at Earth Day; therefore, the Lawrence County Earth Day Committee has decided to cancel the event scheduled for April 18th in Ewing Park.” In lieu of holding the event, a virtual art contest for all ages will be held to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. State Police Releases Non-Life-Sustaining Businesses Enforcement Totals

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania State Police released data on actions taken against non-life-sustaining businesses that failed to comply with Governor Tom Wolf’s order closing their physical locations. Enforcement began on Monday, March 23, 2020. On Thursday, Pennsylvania State Police issued a total of 21 warnings, bringing their week total to 78 warnings.  No citations have been reported. A total of four warnings have been reported in the troop coverage area that includes Ellwood City.  The coverage area consists of Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, and Mercer counties. Wayne Township Announces Modified Meeting

To mitigate the COVID-19 spread, the Wayne Township Supervisor meeting, scheduled for Thursday April 2, 2020 has been modified to transact essential business only. The Board of Supervisors will be participating in a “Conference Call Business Meeting” for the April Board Meeting.
