Annual Earth Day Event Cancelled, Virtual Art Contest Announced

The Lawrence County Earth Day Committee announced the cancellation of the annual Earth Day festivities.  The event will be replaced with a virtual art contest. In the statement received this week, the committee stated, “We are committed to keeping our visitors safe and healthy at Earth Day; therefore, the Lawrence County Earth Day Committee has decided to cancel the event scheduled for April 18th in Ewing Park.” In lieu of holding the event, a virtual art contest for all ages will be held to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. State Police Releases Non-Life-Sustaining Businesses Enforcement Totals

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania State Police released data on actions taken against non-life-sustaining businesses that failed to comply with Governor Tom Wolf’s order closing their physical locations. Enforcement began on Monday, March 23, 2020. On Thursday, Pennsylvania State Police issued a total of 21 warnings, bringing their week total to 78 warnings.  No citations have been reported. A total of four warnings have been reported in the troop coverage area that includes Ellwood City.  The coverage area consists of Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, and Mercer counties. Wayne Township Announces Modified Meeting

To mitigate the COVID-19 spread, the Wayne Township Supervisor meeting, scheduled for Thursday April 2, 2020 has been modified to transact essential business only. The Board of Supervisors will be participating in a “Conference Call Business Meeting” for the April Board Meeting. The Borough of Ellwood City has declared a State of Emergency amid the COVID-19 global pandemic.  The announcement was made per a press release made available by the Borough and Mayor Anthony Court Friday morning. Lions Club Announce Student of the Month

Angel Zilka, a Riverside senior, is the Ellwood City Lions Club Student of the Month for February 2020. Zilka plans on attending the Community College of Beaver County and is also working as an intern at the Ellwood City Forge Pictured below, left to right are Chris, Angel, and Carl Zelka, along with King Lion Chip Campbell. Ellwood City Public Library Closes To Coincide With School Closures

On Friday, and in advance to the national state of emergency declaration, the state of Pennsylvania stepped up containment efforts by ordering a two-week closure of all public schools and urging residents to stay away from malls, gyms and other public spaces. In accordance, the Office of Commonwealth Libraries has instructed all Pennsylvania public libraries to close Saturday through March 29, to coincide with the school closure. Department of Health Provides Update on COVID-19, New Presumptive Positives Bring Statewide Total to 21

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Health this morning confirmed five additional presumptive positive case of COVID-19 — four residents from Montgomery County and one resident from Northampton County. All are adults and are either in isolation at home or being treated at the hospital.
