Lincoln High Cheerleader Food Drive

In Ellwood City, the cheerleaders from Lincoln High School came together last month to hold a food drive in hopes of being able to give back to the community amid the coronavirus pandemic. “Our girls are very giving and they have such big hearts,” said Christie Bukowski. Bukowski is the president of the Varsity and Jr. High Cheerleaders at Ellwood City. Ellwood City Library Activities for the week of June 8, 2020

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include NOTICE The Ellwood City Area Public Library will be taking return books starting on Tuesday June 9. From that point on books will be accepted in specially marked return bins located in the Library’s parking lot Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Only Library books and Interlibrary Loan Books are to be placed in these bins, NO donated books please. Local Church Hosting Pizza Giveaway

Christ Presbyterian Church will be holding a community pizza give away at the church on Friday, June 12 from 4:oo PM until 6:00 PM (or when the pizza runs out, which ever comes first). The church ordered from two pizza places in town: Johnny’s and Domino’s. In total, the church purchased 100 pizzas. 2020 Lawrence County Fair Canceled

The Coronavirus pandemic that swept our planet these past few months might have seemed to cease, but the aftermath is far from over. Many local festivals and fairs, including the annual Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, and Foods Festival, have been cancelled and most recently, the Lawrence County Fair has been cancelled. In a letter released on Facebook the directors explain their plans for the upcoming, post pandemic summer. “It is with shattered hearts that we (the Board of Directors) have made the painful decision to cancel the Fair for 2020,” the letter reads. Ellwood City Mayor Anthony Court awarded the 2nd Beautification award of 2020 to Eric and Shannon Houk of Orchard Avenue. Lincoln High School’s Class of 2020 enjoyed somewhat of a non-traditional graduation ceremony and ensuing recognition on Tuesday. Thanks to the county moving to the green phase graduating seniors gathered in the Leslie Sabo auditorium for a traditional ‘tassel turn’ but shortly thereafter all seniors participated in a parade that roamed throughout Ellwood City and its nearby neighborhoods. “[This] was definitely the most personable commencement ceremony we’ve ever had,” Principal Kirk Lape said this week, citing the attention that was paid to each individual graduate.  Lape has said the events will be filmed and edited into the commencement ceremony film.


Patricia Ann (Pat) Dici, 82

Patricia Ann (Pat) Dici, 82, of Ellwood City passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020, in Weston, Florida, after a courageous battle against cancer. Born October 19, 1937, in Wheeling, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William and Ann Bradcovich. She was married on February 3, 1996, to Paul Dici. Pat was an active member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Red Hat Society, Municipal Women’s Club and the Historical Society.
