Ellwood City Library activities for the week of June 29

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. NOTE The Library will continue doing curbside pickup. Please call us with the book(s), authors, genre or recommended material you would like to check out and our staff will see that it is in alphabetical order in the lobby for you. Limitations for patrons are 10 books and three, either books on CD or DVD’s, per person. All patrons must wear a mask when entering the lobby and wait until there are less than three people in the lobby….

A Unity Rally was held in the Ellwood City Community Plaza on Lawrence Avenue in downtown Ellwood City on Sunday afternoon. The non-partisan and public demonstration was planned to raise awareness of and show support for the Black Lives Matter and current Civil Rights Movement sweeping across the nation. One of the most entertaining, and patriotic, summer activities are the fireworks. Whether it’s an expensive firework show in a city or small, dollar store sparklers, no matter your age, everyone loves them. PLAY BALL! Local Youth Summer Seasons Beginning

Typically, a summer season for baseball and softball would be filled with play-off games and tournaments, but since the pandemic, local youth baseball and softball organizations have decided to use whatever they can of the summer to give the local youth a chance to play this year. Local leagues like the Ellwood City Girls Softball League, will only have 5 teams for their 13-18 age group and 3 teams for their 9-12 age group. Lincoln High School Class of ’68 Announcement

Lincoln High Schools graduating class of ’68 had originally made plans to hold an event to celebrate the classes 70th birthday. This birthday party had been scheduled for Friday, July 3, 2020 has been cancelled for this year and rescheduled for 2021. Many of the classmates had expressed their concerns about hosting an event of such large attendee numbers during the COVID-19 pandemic.    


Ellwood City Playground Program To Resume

Despite a temporary setback last week with a temporary suspension, the Ellwood City Playground Program is resuming. According to information made available by borough, the Playground Program at Ewing Park will resume Tuesday June 23rd at the regularly scheduled times. The program was temporarily suspended after it was notified an individual that participates in the program on a daily basis was exposed to an individual who has tested positive for Covid-19. NOTICE: Ellwood City School Board Vacancy

Effective June 9, 2020, a vacancy exists on the Board of School Directors of the Ellwood City Area School District.  The Board of School Directors intend to appoint the new director to fill the current vacancy at General Purpose Board Meeting to be conducted in July. The following are police criminal complaints filed at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Lawrence County office of Honorable Jerry G. Cartwright. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CALL On Sunday, June 7, at approximately 3:15 p.m, police were responding to a PFA Violation. When police arrived at the Porterville Road residence in Perry Township, they were met with the victim and her child.
