Library Activities For The Week Of August 3rd

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. NOTE The Library will continue doing curbside pickup. Please call us with the book(s), authors, genre or recommended material you would like to check out and our staff will see that it is in alphabetical order in the lobby for you. Limitations for patrons are 10 books and three, either books on CD or DVD’s, per person. Allegheny Aquatic Alliance Presented Proclamation

Mayor Anthony J. Court presented a proclamation to the Allegheny Aquatic Alliance on July 29th, 2020. This outstanding group established in 2009 has been known for “Connoquenessing Creek Clean Up,”-Removing over  500,000 pounds of trash and over 5,500 tires from the creek. In 2018, Mayor Court presented the group with a plaque that marked “I couldn’t be more proud of a group of individuals! The time and effort put forth by Allegheny Aquatic Alliance is astonishing. Calvin Presbyterian Announces Free Sub Giveaway

Calvin Presbyterian Church will be giving away Italian Subs from Venezia’s on Saturday, August 8. The subs are completely free and can be picked up from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm in the church parking lot. Calvin Presbyterian Church is located at 615 Crescent Avenue in Ellwood City.  The church office is open from 9:00 am until noon Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  The church is accessing email and phone messages remotely, and can be contacted at 724-758-4258 or calvinellwood@gmail.com.


PHOTOS: New Wooden Bridge Constructed In Ewing Park

In July, a new little attraction was added into Ewing Park – a cute little wooden bridge surrounded by hand painted rocks and some flowers. The idea was born in the spring by the Director of Public Works, Randy Gatto. Gatto wanted to create a peaceful place for families to use as a memory maker. He hopes it’ll be used for family portraits or even for recently engaged couples to take pictures at. Ellwood City Summer Colt League Team Enjoying Successful Season

When school got cancelled, so did the sports that were left to be completed. Seniors were left without a senior season, and plenty of other athletes were left disappointed. Thankfully, our county was lucky enough that we could have summer leagues for the local athletes playing softball and baseball. For Lincoln High School students, the Ellwood City summer Colt League team is having a successful season with only three losses and their team ranking among the top teams in their league. ECPD Response To Local Bear Sightings

Pennsylvania’s bear population has been increasing for decades, and at the same time, many people have moved into the areas where bears reside, but for many in Ellwood City, a bear sighting may be few and far between.  However, recently there have been social media posts and reports of bears roaming the local neighborhoods in the Borough of Ellwood City. COVID-19 Friendly Community Nights

This weekend and into the week, two organizations have decided to host COVID-19 friendly community night events. On Friday, July 24, there will be an outdoor movie night and concert hosted at the Ewing Park Stage. Food will be served at 7:00 and on the menu is meatball sandwiches, penne, salad, deserts, and drinks. To meet CDC requirements for food, all those serving will be masked and gloved. At 7:30 a concert will be held, playing worship music similar to what listeners here on K-LOVE, and finally at 9:00 the move “The Sandlot” will be played in its G-rated form…


Letter To The Editor: It Needs Fixed NOW

All one has to do is listen to some of the board meetings online to get an idea of just how toxic a few members have made the entire board. Is the public aware there are members who are voting on agenda items brought up simply because their own kids are in that particular sport/event? The following are police criminal complaints filed at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Lawrence County office of Honorable Jerry G. Cartwright. Repeated Car Theft On June 28 at 1:17 AM ECPD responed to the area of Park Ave. and Seventh Street after a reporting party observed two males (one in white and the other in red) getting into a parked vehicle and grabbing items out of the car.
