Stiefel Park Summer Hockey League Cancelled

Due to the new guidelines of mask requirements, the Stiefel Park Hockey summer session has been cancelled. Originally, the decision had been made for the summer league to start after the 4th of July weekend, due to restrictions in Pennsylvania and many players traveling the country for vacations. They had to postpone the season originally due to the rink being located in Beaver County and weren’t even able to begin a season until the county entered the Green Phase. The following are police criminal complaints filed at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Lawrence County office of Honorable Jerry G. Cartwright. Local Man Charged for making Terroristic Threats to ex-girlfriend 22-year-old Michael Sopo of Harrisville, Pennsylvania is being charged with multiple forms of assault and harassment after his ex-girlfriend called and reported him for an altercation on Wednesday, June 17. Pennsylvania State Police responded to a report by a female that had been assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, Sopo. Ellwood Library Activities For The Week Of July 6

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. NOTE The Library will continue doing curbside pickup. Please call us with the book(s), authors, genre or recommended material you would like to check out and our staff will see that it is in alphabetical order in the lobby for you. Limitations for patrons are 10 books and three, either books on CD or DVD’s, per person. Borough Updates: Targeting & Shutoffs

According to information made available by the Borough of Ellwood City, they will be resuming speeding enforcement and electric shutoffs. Ellwood City Mayor Anthony Court advised the borough police will be stepping patrols along Line and Wampum Avenues and Pershing and Beatty Streets where there have been complaints about speeders.  Court said speeding is a major concern now because children are out for the summer. Additionally, Ellwood City Borough Manager David Allen advised that electric shutoffs will resume on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 after a period of deferment during the COVID-19 restrictions. In honor of the new Community Garden Utility Shed at ‘5 Points’ intersection in Ewing Park the Department of Public Works held a poster contest for children ages 4 and 12 last month. The winners were promised to have their poster on display for a whole year at the garden as well as gift certificate from McDonald’s. The winners were announced as Mason is the winner of the 4-6 age group, Alex is the winner of the 7-9 group and Kyra of the age 10-12 group. PHOTO: Two-Vehicle Crash On Portersville Road

A two-vehicle crash sent one person to the hospital early Thursday morning. The crash happened on Portersville Road (Route 488) at the intersection with Wurtemburg Road. According to reports, one person was taken to the hospital and a second person refused medical treatment. State police are investigating the cause of the crash. The roadway was blocked off before Hickernell Road while crews attended to the scene. Riverside June Board Meeting Recap

On Monday June 15, the Riverside Beaver County School District board meeting commenced as usual with a focus on the 2020-2021 school year budget. At this meeting, a school budget of 25.35 million was passed with an 8 to 0 vote with one member absent. It was also agreed on there not being a property tax increase and the board used $298,924 of surplus funds to meet budget. BC3 Announces President’s List, Dean’s List and Graduates for Spring 2020

Butler County Community College announced the names of students who have made the President’s List and Dean’s List for the spring 2020 semester, as well as the names of those who have graduated recently. Students who have achieved a cumulative GPA (grade-point average) of 3.75 or higher are named to the President’s List following completion of at least 12 semester hours or upon completion of degree requirements. Students who have achieved a cumulative GPA (grade-point average) of 3.5 to 3.74 are named to the Dean’s List following completion of at least 12 semester hours or upon completion of degree requirements….

Mayor Anthony J. Court presented Linda Saxton of Pershing Street the 5th Mayor Beautification Award of 2020. Linda was presented with a yard sign and a dinner certificate from a local restaurant. “Linda did an amazing job on her property,” said Mayor Court in a statement. “Congratulations Linda!” There will be one more award issued in 2020 which Mayor Court will announce soon. Dog’s Afternoon Out Just like the rest of us, two local dogs decided that enough was enough with the indoors and took to the sidewalks of Ellwood City. On Tuesday, June 23 Bailey and Brandy, two Newfoundland Poodles, were first spotted out of the blue by the viaduct on Second Street.
