Ellwood City Downs Seneca Valley, Advances to Little League Championship

Ellwood City downed Seneca Valley North, 5-3, to advance to the finals of the 69th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field on Thursday night.  With some great play from rival Riverside, a rematch between the rivals could decide the championship. Ellwood City edged Riverside, 7-6, in the nightcap of the opening night of the 69th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field Monday night. 69th Ellwood City Little League Tournament Starts Monday

The 69th Ellwood City Little League Tournament will begin Monday night at Freidhoff Field at the Ewing Park Baseball Complex. The tournament, which began in 1952, will double-elimination three-game minimum per team format. The teams entered in the tournament are host Ellwood City, Riverside, Neshannock, Seneca Valley North and Mohawk. The teams participating represent some of the most successful baseball programs in western Pennsylvania. These programs have contributed to their respective high schools capturing 68 section titles, 20 WPIAL championships and nine PIAA state crowns. Longtime Local Grocery Store Loccisano’s To Close; To Re-Open As Shop ‘n Save

For over a century, residents of Ellwood City have gone to locally owned and operated Loccisano’s for any and all of their grocery based needs. People have come miles to fill suitcases and coolers full with the meat they sell. Sam Barry, Jr. collected his 10th Delmar Golf Course Club Championship last weekend at Delmar Golf Course. Barry Jr. took home the title with a 1-up victory over Michael Pope. Joey Hudson earned top honors as the A-Flight Champion with a 3/2 victory over Noah Rinker and Zac Carr collected the B-Flight championship with a 1-up victory over Chris Weisz. Riverside Graduate Takes Home 2nd In Golf Tournament

Justin Hand might’ve just celebrated graduating from Riverside High School, but he’s already back into the swing of things in tournament golf. Hand came in second place this past weekend at the WPGA Junior Championship. He finished with a total gross of 69, falling one short from the 1st place winner Rocco Salvitti of Canonsburgh. A local group that calls themselves “All Aboard Ellwood” began 3 years ago in hopes to be able to commemorate Ellwood City’s once thriving railroad industry. The community focused volunteer group was able obtain a piece of property at the corner of Fifth Street and Spring Avenue which started the next phase of their plain; gaining a rail car of some type or a replica of a historical railroad building.
