PHOTOS: Carpenters Project Rebuilding Post COVID

Starting in 2002, the Carpenters Project has helped many families with exterior house projects and even during the pandemic of a century they didn’t take a break this year. Grant Announced To Turn Stonecrest Golf Course Into Business Park

State Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) announced this week the Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded a $2 million Business in Our Sites grant and a $3 million Business in Our Sites loan for the development of what will become the former Stonecrest Golf Course into the Stonecrest Business Park located in New Beaver Borough. The Lawrence County Economic Development Corporation (LCEDC), in cooperation with Stonecrest Business Park (SBP), plans to develop the former golf course into the Stonecrest Business Park. Franklin Township will be having a “Too Toxic To Trash” Recycling Event on Saturday, August 1. This is a way for residents to get rid of household hazardous and electronic waste in a safe and proper way. VIRTUAL FUN: Local Athletes Complete In Special Olympics of PA Virtual Summer Games

This summer, over 1,000 athletes participated in the Virtual Summer Games (VSG) weekend Friday, June 12 to Sunday, June 14, 2020. The VSG was hosted by the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania in lue of the normal Summer Games that had to be canceled because of COVID-19. The Special Olympics of Pennsylvania connected athletes and with athletes through Facebook as well as using YouTube videos as reference within emails. POLICE: Hitchhicker Wanted After Stabbing Driver

On June 27, at around 2:26 AM, Ellwood City Police Department officers reported to an area hospital after a call came in to report a man was in the lobby bleeding from the neck. When they made contact with victim John Lucchesi and while waiting for emergency services to arrive, police questioned the man as to what happened. Luccesi reported that after he had offered a hitchhiker a ride, he had stabbed him after an argument. Lucchesi said he had picked up the hitchhiker near the BnB Express on Fourth Street. The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. NOTE The Library will continue doing curbside pickup. POLICE REPORTS: Criminal Complaints

The following are police criminal complaints filed by the Ellwood City Police Department. PUBLIC INTOXICATION On Tuesday, July 7 at 1:08 AM, ECPD reported to Hazel Manor for a disturbance in the parking lot. When they arrived, they made contact with a visibly intoxicated Jerrin Brandon, 30, of Fombell, outside the front door of the bar. Brandon was stating that he wanted to fight owner Jeff Weisz because Brandon believed that he “stole money and cigarettes from his girlfriend”. Ellwood City Off To Strong Start In Tri-County HS Summer League

Ellwood City is off to a strong start in the 2020 Tri-County High School Summer League. The team is 5-1 after nearly a month of the season. The league consists of 15 teams from Mercer, Butler, and Lawrence Counties. Ellwood defeated Hermitage 9-4 on Tuesday rebounding from its lone loss of the season last Thursday. On Tuesday, Zion Bunney (3 IP) and Nathan Scott (5 IP) share pitching duties for the victors.
