Upcoming Ellwood City Wrestling Season Announced

Interested in wrestling? The Ellwood City Varsity and Junior High Wrestling season is starting soon!

The first practice will take place on Friday, November 20, 2020, scheduled to take place from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Lincoln High School Cafeteria.

Practices will be Monday thru Friday with optional lifting sessions three times a week at 3:10 p.m. There are temperature checks before every practice/hand sanitizer and the mats cleaned to CDC standards.

There are several tournaments the team is planning to attend this season including, Panther Holiday Classic (Varsity Only), Mid-Winter Mayhem (Varsity Only), and West Mifflin Christmas Tournament.

Joining Fleming on the coaching staff are Cortney Roberts (Asst. Head Coach), Mike Sinclair, (Voluntary Asst. Coach), Donnie Kerr (Head Coach – JH), and Matt Alley (Voluntary Asst. Coach).

For a new, interested wrestler, Coach Fleming expects the participant to learn teamwork, self-discipline, technique which can improve self-defense, having a fun time also hard work, get stronger, learn the fundamentals of the sport.

“We do a great job of educating the student, asking them for personal goals and helping them achieve them,” said Fleming. “It’s an individual sport in which winning is rewarded to those with a great work ethic.”

Kids from Riverside are able to wrestle for Ellwood City as well. The program is still unsure what events parents may be able to attend due to COVID-19 restrictions, but the program will provide information as it can be obtained.
