Riverside June Board Meeting Recap

On Monday June 15, the Riverside Beaver County School District board meeting commenced as usual with a focus on the 2020-2021 school year budget. At this meeting, a school budget of 25.35 million was passed with an 8 to 0 vote with one member absent. It was also agreed on there not being a property tax increase and the board used $298,924 of surplus funds to meet budget. BC3 Announces President’s List, Dean’s List and Graduates for Spring 2020

Butler County Community College announced the names of students who have made the President’s List and Dean’s List for the spring 2020 semester, as well as the names of those who have graduated recently. Students who have achieved a cumulative GPA (grade-point average) of 3.75 or higher are named to the President’s List following completion of at least 12 semester hours or upon completion of degree requirements. Students who have achieved a cumulative GPA (grade-point average) of 3.5 to 3.74 are named to the Dean’s List following completion of at least 12 semester hours or upon completion of degree requirements….

PHOTO: 5th Mayor Beautification Award Presented

Mayor Anthony J. Court presented Linda Saxton of Pershing Street the 5th Mayor Beautification Award of 2020. Linda was presented with a yard sign and a dinner certificate from a local restaurant. “Linda did an amazing job on her property,” said Mayor Court in a statement. “Congratulations Linda!” There will be one more award issued in 2020 which Mayor Court will announce soon. POLICE REPORTS: Criminal Complaints

The following are police criminal complaints filed by the Ellwood City Police Department. Dog’s Afternoon Out Just like the rest of us, two local dogs decided that enough was enough with the indoors and took to the sidewalks of Ellwood City. On Tuesday, June 23 Bailey and Brandy, two Newfoundland Poodles, were first spotted out of the blue by the viaduct on Second Street. State Farm employee Marilyn Mancini was the first to report the two at 10:00 AM. Ellwood City Library activities for the week of June 29

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. NOTE The Library will continue doing curbside pickup. Please call us with the book(s), authors, genre or recommended material you would like to check out and our staff will see that it is in alphabetical order in the lobby for you. Limitations for patrons are 10 books and three, either books on CD or DVD’s, per person. PHOTOS: Ellwood City Unity Rally

A Unity Rally was held in the Ellwood City Community Plaza on Lawrence Avenue in downtown Ellwood City on Sunday afternoon. The non-partisan and public demonstration was planned to raise awareness of and show support for the Black Lives Matter and current Civil Rights Movement sweeping across the nation. Business is boomin’ for a local business as we approach the 4th of July holiday weekend. REMINDER: Firework Guidelines For Ellwood City Residents

One of the most entertaining, and patriotic, summer activities are the fireworks. Whether it’s an expensive firework show in a city or small, dollar store sparklers, no matter your age, everyone loves them. In anticipation of the upcoming Fourth of July holiday weekend, the Borough of Ellwood City Police have asked for local residents to be mindful and aware of current rules and guidelines as the department has already fielded calls about unlawful activities. PLAY BALL! Local Youth Summer Seasons Beginning

Typically, a summer season for baseball and softball would be filled with play-off games and tournaments, but since the pandemic, local youth baseball and softball organizations have decided to use whatever they can of the summer to give the local youth a chance to play this year. Local leagues like the Ellwood City Girls Softball League, will only have 5 teams for their 13-18 age group and 3 teams for their 9-12 age group. Lincoln High School Class of ’68 Announcement

Lincoln High Schools graduating class of ’68 had originally made plans to hold an event to celebrate the classes 70th birthday. This birthday party had been scheduled for Friday, July 3, 2020 has been cancelled for this year and rescheduled for 2021. Many of the classmates had expressed their concerns about hosting an event of such large attendee numbers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
