Ellwood City Police Officers Make Donation Towards LHS Field Trip

Mayor Anthony Court and Lt. David Kingston representing the Ellwood City Police Officers make a donation towards an annual field trip for Lincoln High School students, Teacher Mr. Gaibis, U.S. Advanced Placement Government and Politics class. The students will be attending a Pennsylvania Supreme Court session in Philadelphia in March of 2020.  The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania is the highest court in the Commonwealth and the oldest appellate court in the nation. Riverside Boy’s Swimming Team Off To PIAA State Championships

After earning WPIAL gold on Day One of the WPIAL Swimming Championships on Thursday, the Riverside boys’ swimming again placed well on Day Two of the Class-AA WPIAL championship meet. Senior Josiah Shaffer posted a 2.17 second time drop in the 100 breast, securing a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:01:64. Sophomore Alexander Roth, juniors Graham Kralic and Hayden Panek, and freshman Sam Kline also secured a fourth-place finish in the 400-yard free relay after posting a notable 6.18-second drop for a 3:20:57 finish. Ellwood City Public Library Activities For Week of March 2

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities.  Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4 10:00 a.m. – “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. Riverside Boys Relay Team Captures Gold In Day 1 Of WPIAL Championships

The Riverside Panthers boys’ swim relay team took home WPIAL gold on Thursday in Day 1 of the WPIAL swimming championships at Joe C. Trees Pool at the University of Pittsburgh. The boys’ relay team placed first in the boys’ AA 200-freestyle. In an exciting finish, the Panthers relay team secured its victory by .01 seconds to claim its championship. Belle Vernon narrowly finished second. Former LHS Graduate Petrak Helps Lead Buckeyes To Big Ten Championship

Ohio State won the title at the Big Ten women’s swimming and diving championship Saturday in Iowa City, Iowa, and former Lincoln High School graduate and swimming standout Taylor Petrak was a big part of the Buckeye’s first Big Ten title since 1986. The 5’9″ junior was part of a victorious 200 freestyle relay team that set a pool record time of 1:27.57. The Buckeyes maintained a steady advantage all the way through Saturday evening and won the title by a margin of 197 points over rival Michigan. Walley Earns WPIAL Gold, Advances to PIAA Championships

Ellwood City’s Austin Walley advanced to the PIAA Wrestling State Championships in Hershey in March by placing 1st overall in the 182-pound weight class at the Southwest Regional Championships held at IUP last weekend. Walley used a 7-4 decision victory to defeat Patrick Cutchember of Quaker Valley. The victory, his third in nine days over Cutchember earned Walley first WPIAL championship. “I’m feeling great,” said Walley in an interview with the Post-Gazette. “My training is going well.” The WPIAL ended up with four champions. Panther Swimming Team Heading To WPIAL Championships

After a close meet on February 13th, Riverside boys varsity swimming edged out Beaver 99-83, earning their second undefeated section championship. Girls swimming also claimed a win, beating the Bobcats 89-85 for an overall a 6-2 season record. POLICE: Criminal Complaints

The following are police criminal complaints filed at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Lawrence County office of Honorable Jerry G. Cartwright. According to a criminal complaint, a series of fraudulent activities resulted in charges of identity theft and receiving stolen property. State police were notified of the activities that took place on the victims debit card while the victim was hospitalized between the dates of December 7 and December 16, 2019. The charges totaled $2,324.54 from various locations. Video surveillance at these locations showed Richard Worrell, 29, of Ellwood City, and Amy Marie Crespo, 33, of New Castle, using the victim’s…
