Sanctuaries of Safety Seminar Announced

A Sanctuaries of Safety Seminar will take place this Sunday and will be hosted by the First United Methodist Church Ellwood City. The seminar is being presented to raise awareness of safety concerns in the local churches and communities. VIDEO: One Killed In Perry Township Accident

According to multiple reports, a Mercer County man was killed Wednesday morning when a school van he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer on state Route 488 in Ellwood City. Peter Ellis, 64, was killed in the accident, said Lawrence County Coroner Rich “R.J.” Johnson. According to reports, Johnson said the accident occurred around 8:50 a.m. when the van, negotiating a curve in the road, crossed the center line and hit the tractor-trailer. FBI Raids Americore Hospital in Ellwood City

According to a LeeDaily.com article and many local news reports, nearly two dozen FBI agents recently raided Ellwood City Medical Center, the now-closed Pennsylvania hospital owned by Americore Health. Ellwood City Mayor Anthony Court told WPXI that the agents “carried out boxes and boxes of material from the medical center” late last week. The FBI says that they are conducting law enforcement activities, but at this time the agency is not saying more. Wolverines Finish 14th In Buckeye Classic Wrestling Tournament; Walley Takes 1st

On Saturday, the Ellwood City Wolverines wrestling team traveled to Rayland, Ohio for a 26-team Buckeye Local Panther Classic Wrestling Tournament. Ellwood City finished 14th as a team with Austin Walley taking 1st place in his weight class.  Rodney Grymes narrowly missed the medal stand, finishing 4th overall in his 220-pound weight class. Walley used two victories each in under ninety seconds to advance early before battling Howard Congdon of West Mifflin Area in a nearly five-minute match. LHS Caring Team Accepting Donations During Senior Night Basketball Game

The Lincoln High School Caring Team will be accepting donations for the community food bank before the boys’ final home basketball game Tuesday night. Fans attending the Senior Night game are asked to bring non-perishable food to help support people in our community who are facing food insecurity. There is a particular need for canned fruit, tuna, and soups, as well as cereals, mac and cheese, and toilet paper. Caring team members will also be collecting cash donations to support the program. New Ellwood City Tax Collector Hours Announced

Ellwood City Borough Tax Collector, Sue Gatto, announced her new hours this week. The hours for the month of February will be Wednesdays 10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. only. Beginning March 1st, the tax collector hours will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m. The office of Tax Collector is located in the Ellwood City Municipal Building on Lawrence Avenue. Police Reports: Criminal Complaints

The following are police criminal complaints filed at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Lawrence County office of Honorable Jerry G. Cartwright. According to a complaint, on January 20, 2020, at approximately 8:45 a.m. police were called and advised on the whereabouts of defendant, Maria Carmen Rozzi, 55, of New Castle, who left a residence on foot and was in possession of a pistol. Mr. Christopher George Linville, 47, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 7, 1972, in Ellwood City, PA to George “Brad” Linville and Carol Herko. Christopher proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy as a HM3 “Corpsman”. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Christopher worked as an EDT at UPMC Passavant Hospital ER, where he would later work as an EMT for the Cranberry Ambulance Corporation.
