Riverside June Board Meeting Recap

On Monday June 15, the Riverside Beaver County School District board meeting commenced as usual with a focus on the 2020-2021 school year budget.

At this meeting, a school budget of 25.35 million was passed with an 8 to 0 vote with one member absent. It was also agreed on there not being a property tax increase and the board used $298,924 of surplus funds to meet budget. There was also 5 teacher retirement approvals, one resignation, and one of the teaching positions will be filled with a replacement.

The budget included the retirement of 5 teachers with one of the teaching positions being replaced according to Business Administrator Debbie Brandsteter.

The 2020 Homestead/Farmstead real estate assessment exclusion was approved at $4,104.00, which equates to a real estate tax credit of up to $283.38 for all approved homestead and farmsteads in the district.

Riverside teachers that have officially retired are Sandy Henry and Marcia Podnar from the Primary Center, Patricia Ridenour from the Middle School, and Chet Boner from the High School. Additionally, 14 volunteer coaches for the fall and winter sports seasons had been approved as well the employment of three coaches.

Those approved to volunteer are the following: Tomianne Anderson and Bob Householder for Girls Tennis, Chuck Kotuby, Dave Sullivan, Kristen Kelosky, and Clint Kotuby for Cross Country, Matt Hoover, Todd Melfi, Chuck Houk, Jarrett Speer, and Brandon Speer for Football, Mel Ice for Golf, Samantha Hampton for Football & Basketball Cheering, and David Peffer for Swim. Those approved as hired coaches are the following: John Siget, Jr. as the Head Girls Soccer Coach, Leah Prisuta as the Girls JV Basketball Coach, and Renee Drake for Girls Varsity Basketball Coach & Summer Conditioning.

Following, paid meals for Riverside’s High School and Primary School students will also go up in pricing by five cents. Riverside’s High School lunch will now cost $2.70 and Primary students will now pay $2.55 for lunch.

All above items approved were approved with a vote of 8 to 0 with one member absent.
