Lady Wolverines Easily Dispatch Hopewell

The Ellwood City Wolverines varsity softball team easily dispatched Hopewell 11-1 on Thursday afternoon at Steifel Park. The Wolverines tallied five runs in the third inning to blow the game open after being staked to a one-run lead in the first inning. EC Grad Skyla Greco Named PSAC West Softball Pitcher Of The Week

For the second time in her sophomore season, Skyla Greco has been named the PSAC West Softball Pitcher of the Week. The Seton Hill sophomore also earned the first award for this season from the league as well. Greco threw a no-hitter game during the second game of a doubleheader sweep of Wheeling Jesuit. She gave up only one unearned run during an error in the first inning to help keep the Cardinals hitless, finishing out the game with a strikeout six for the win. EC Softball Victorious In Blowout, Baseball Team Falls Short

The Ellwood City girls softball team exploded for 10 hits en route to a 15-0, mercy rule-shortened victory over Blackhawk on Monday at Stiefel Park.  The Lady Wolverines plated four runs in the first and two in the second before a nine-run third inning put the game quickly out of reach. Thursday evening’s Ellwood City softball contest was called due to rain in the top of the second inning with the Wolverines leading 1-0 over Beaver Falls.  Senior Breonna Streit led off with a base hit and scored on an RBI single by Maria Ioanilli to give the Wolverines the early lead. Madi Krugh struck out two Tigers in her 1 1/3 innings before the rain forced the delay and cancellation. Two Ellwood City homers led to an eight run outburst in the second inning that propelled the Lady Wolverines past visiting Riverside 15-2 in varsity softball action.
