PHOTOS: Wolverines Clinch Playoff Berth With 60-31 Victory Over Riverside

The Ellwood City girls basketball team used a decisive third quarter to race away from rival Riverside Monday evening and pick-up a 60-31 RivEll Cup victory that secured a Class 3A playoff berth. The Wolverines used a 24-4 third quarter onslaught to pull away from the visiting Panthers. Claire Noble led all scorers with 25 points including five 3-pointers to pace the Ellwood City offense. Lady Wolverines Knock Off Section Leading Lancers

Just days after the boys basketball team defeated Neshannock, the Ellwood City girls basketball team went on the road and upset the section-leading Lady Lancers 67-60 Thursday night. Five Wolverines scored in double figures in the sound victory as Ellwood City led throughout the contest in handing the Lancers (11-5 Overall, 5-1 Section 3A-1) their first section loss. Delaney Sturegon scored a team-high 16 points to pace the Wolverines offense. Elsie Sturgeon scored 14 points and Claire Noble posted 13 points in the victory. EC Basketball Teams Net Two Christmas Tournament Championships

The Ellwood City boys and girls basketball team each netted a Christmas Tournament championship Thursday evening. First, the Wolverines boys team easily dismantled Maplewood 62-22 to capture the Mercer Christmas Tournament championship. Nine players, including all five starters, scored in the victory. Colten Crizer scored a game-high 13 points while Ryan Widmaier scored a career-high 12 points off the bench. Joseph Roth stuffed the stat sheet and finished with 12 points (two 3-pointers), 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 7 blocks. Wolverines Basketball Teams Each Collect Tournament Victories

A pair of big men led the offensive charge Wednesday night for the Ellwood City boys basketball team as they picked up a victory over Redbank Valley in the Mercer Christmas Tournament. Aaron Lake – who finished with a career high 22 points – and Joseph Roth combined to score 53 points in the Wolverines 77-71 victory. Ellwood City led 37-33 at halftime behind Lake’s 16 first half points. Wolverines Basketball Teams Each Rout New Brighton

The Ellwood City Girls Basketball Team routed New Brighton 69-15 Monday night, improving their record to 5-1 on the young season. Kayla Jones poured in a game-high 23 points to lead the offensive charge as the visiting Wolverines. Ellwood City used an impressive 22-1 first quarter spurt to quickly dismantle the Lions as the Wolverines led 48-4 at halftime. Claire Noble Signs To Play Basketball At Clarion University

Congratulations to Claire Noble who signed her National Letter of Intent Wednesday to continue her academic and basketball career at Clarion University. Claire Noble, a senior standout athlete at Lincoln High School in Ellwood City, signed a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday to continue her academic and athletic career at Clarion University. A High Honor student who was recently selected as the Lion’s Club Student of the Month, Noble, is a 6’0” guard/forward who earned a scholarship to play Women’s Basketball for the Golden Eagles. Ellwood City Girls Basketball To Hold Youth Clinic

Let’s Bounce. The Ellwood City Girls Basketball team, including Head Coach Dena Noble, along with her staff and players, will be hosting a basketball clinic for girls in Grades 3-6. The clinic is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 4th and Saturday, November 11th. Both days are scheduled for 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Lincoln High School large gymnasium. The cost is $42.00 with a t-shirt or $30.00 without a t-shirt. Registration must be returned by October 13th to order a t-shirt (no exceptions). The Ellwood City girls basketball team was busy this week with three games on the schedule. The Lady Wolverines collected its lone win of the week with a non-section road victory Wednesday night over New Castle. After trailing by nine entering the final quarter, Ellwood City rallied for a thrilling 48-47 victory. Claire Noble finished with a double-double (15 points, 15 rebounds, 3 steals) to lead a well rounded offensive attack for Ellwood City. The Ellwood City girls basketball team raced out to an early advantage Thursday night en route to its 54-31 Riv-Ell victory over the visiting Riverside Panthers. The Wolverines used a 20 point first quarter to jump out to an early advantage they never relinquished on their home court. Lady Wolverines Defeat Rival Riverside On Senior Night

Five Ellwood City seniors were recognized prior to Thursday Night’s rivalry game versus Riverside. The Lady Wolverines proceeded to defeat the visiting Panthers 49-18. Three players paced Ellwood City in double figures led by sophomore Claire Noble and her game-high 16 points.  Seniors Kyla Servick (14 points) and Emily Sedgwick (10 points) helped the Wolverines to victory. Senior Gina Flumer chipped in with a fourth quarter layup.
