The Ellwood City junior big man has led the young, upstart Wolverines to an early 3-0 regular season record after the Wolverines wrapped up the Laurel Tip-Off tournament by defeating the host Spartans 61-46 Monday night. Ellwood City Wolves Club Recognizes Boys Basketball Team

The Ellwood City Wolves Club 11 recognized the Ellwood City Wolverines Boys Basketball Team at their meeting on Wednesday May 11th. The team received recognition for being the first team in the history of the school for being the 2020-2021 WPIAL Champions and the 2021-2022 Section 3A Champions. The team also had two players scoring over 1,000 points in their high school careers. Receiving the certificate for the team was Coach Steve Antuono Sr. Steve Antuono Jr. is second on the Times all time scoring leaders list with 1,297 points and Alexander Roth is sixth on the Times all time…

Wolverines Connect On 14 3-Pointers, Cruise To 72-42 Opening Round Victory

Ellwood City came out firing from deep Monday night as they easily ousted visiting Summit Academy 72-42 in the opening round of the WPIAL Class-3A Playoffs Monday night. The Wolverines finished with 14 3-pointers in the contest, including five in a 23-point first quarter outburst. Ellwood City led by a dozen after the first quarter and never looked back. Wolverines Open Up Playoffs Against Summit Academy

Ellwood City opens up its WPIAL title defense Monday night against Summit Academy at Lincoln High School at 7:00 p.m. in the opening round of the 2022 WPIAL Class 3A Playoffs. Head coach Steve Antuono is preparing his #1 seeded team for its first round opponent. “The seeding was expected after our body of work, however Summit Academy is very athletic,” said Antuono. “Their record doesn’t indicate how good they are and what type of athleticism and size we are up against. Wolverines Earn Top Seed, Playoff Tickets Now On Sale

The “Path To The Pete” starts Monday for the Ellwood City boys basketball team as the WPIAL Class-3A Playoffs are set to begin. The Wolverines earned a #1 seed after its 20-2 regular season. The team went undefeated in section play. PHOTOS: Wolverines Defeat Beaver Falls on Senior Night

Ellwood City remained unbeaten in section play, one night after clinching an outright section championship, with a 65-52 victory over Beaver Falls on Tuesday. Senior Steve Antuono led the charge with a game-high 24 points (10-12 FTs, two 3-pointers, six assists, two steals) while two fellow seniors, Alexander Roth (14 points, four rebounds, four assists) and Peyton O’Brien (13 points, two blocks), joined him in double figures. Roth Nets 1,000th Career Point, Wolverines Clinch First-Ever Section Championship

Two records were set Tuesday night at Mohawk when the Ellwood City Wolverines defeated the host Warriors 57-31. First, in the second quarter, Alexander Roth connected on the first of his two free throw attempts to earn his 1,000th career point. The senior scored 19 of his team-high 20 points (two 3-pointers, four rebounds) in the first half to help the Wolverines gain a 36-14 halftime advantage. Second, and at the final buzzer, the Wolverines (18-2 Overall, 8-0 Section 1-3A) clinched an outright section championship, the first section championship in school history. The Ellwood City Girls Basketball team used an impressive 23-3 first quarter spurt to cruise to a 47-15 victory over rival Riverside on Tuesday night. Three Wolverines finished in double figures led by senior guard Kyla Servick who finished with a game-high 12 points. Saige Chambers (11 points) and Emily Sedgwick (10 points) joined Servick in double figures for an Ellwood City team (7-9 Overall, 4-5 Section 1-3A) that has now collected three consecutive victories. Ellwood City used a decisive first quarter to race out to an early lead in its eventual 60-45 victory over rival Riverside Friday evening at Riverside High School. Ellwood City big man Joseph Roth showed his prowess on both ends of the court Tuesday night, collecting 35 points and hauling in 20 rebounds to lead the Wolverines to a 49-35 victory over section foe Laurel. After an uneventful first quarter, Roth heated up and scored 11 points in the second quarter that saw the host Wolverines pull away for a 19-9 halftime advantage.
