Borough Announces Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

The Borough of Ellwood City announced last week details of their annual Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for borough residents.  The program will begin on Thursday, November 1, 2018 and end the first of April 2019. Individuals receiving assistance last year will be getting information from LIHEAP in the mail. When a residential customer receives a notice of delinquency, he/she must apply for an extended payment plan unless payment is being paid IN FULL. Extended Payment Plan Conditions  Payment plan shall not exceed 90 days after original due date. Agreed amounts are payable for 30-60-90 day periods. The Borough of Ellwood City has received numerous complaints about the “Green Bagster/ Dumpsters.” Remember that you must have them removed after you fill them. Ellwood City Announces Utility Account Budget Plan

According to a press release made available by the Borough of Ellwood City, the Borough Council adopted Resolution #2004-4 approving a budget plan for utility accounts. Under the plan customers may complete an application form provided by the Borough during the annual open enrollment period lasting from the third Monday in March (March 19) through the third Friday in April (April 20). The first budget-billing amount will appear on the May utility bill. The maximum budget periods will be twelve (12) months with all balances due to be settled in the 12th month. Ellwood City Council Raises Firefighter Pay

Yesterday the Ellwood City Borough Council voted to raise the part-time firefighter hourly wage from 11.40/hr to 15.00/hr, “a far more competitive salary,” according to Councilwoman Lisa Guerrera. While council voted in favor of raising the firefighter wage, the majority voted against raising the other non-union employee wages. Guerrera released the official statement: “Several raises for 2018 for the Non-Union employees were in an original motion to be voted on. Ellwood City Wolverines Notch Win Against Mohawk Area

Lincoln won 66-54 against Mohawk Area on Tuesday with the help of Broc Boariu, who scored 22 points. Ellwood City Wolverines pulled away early with a 22-point first quarter after an impressive 22-2 run, eventually claiming a 36-20 lead by halftime. With a field goal percentage of 47% (7-for-15), Boariu had a great game from the field, also sinking 50% (6-for-12) of threes attempted. Motion Approved: T&M to Regrade Ebony Way

The owners of T&M Hardware have had dreams of expanding the store for nearly two decades and finally, over the past year, they have been making the dream a reality. Earlier this year the owners finished razing the properties next to the store to make room for expansions. Animal Hospital Presents Check to Police Department

Ellwood City’s Mayor Anthony J. Court was thrilled to accept a check from Tammy of the Ellwood City Animal Hospital on behalf of the Ellwood City Police K9 Team, Ranger and Sgt. McBride. Just recently Dr. Cindy Mauro of the Ellwood Animal Hospital, Mayor Court and Sgt. McBride participated in a fundraiser so that the K9 Unit could purchase a GPS for K9 Ranger. Bridge Work Expected to Cause Delays, Traffic & 80-Mile Detour

The Pennsylvania Turnpike is using an innovative engineering procedure, Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC), which allows workers to replace bridges in 55 hours instead of requiring a year or more of roadway construction. As a result, there will be a PA Turnpike closure in our area that will likely have a major impact on travel at the end of September.
