Ellwood City Announces Utility Account Budget Plan

According to a press release made available by the Borough of Ellwood City, the Borough Council adopted Resolution #2004-4 approving a budget plan for utility accounts. Under the plan customers may complete an application form provided by the Borough during the annual open enrollment period lasting from the third Monday in March (March 19) through the third Friday in April (April 20). The first budget-billing amount will appear on the May utility bill. The maximum budget periods will be twelve (12) months with all balances due to be settled in the 12th month. Ellwood City Council Raises Firefighter Pay

Yesterday the Ellwood City Borough Council voted to raise the part-time firefighter hourly wage from 11.40/hr to 15.00/hr, “a far more competitive salary,” according to Councilwoman Lisa Guerrera. While council voted in favor of raising the firefighter wage, the majority voted against raising the other non-union employee wages. Ellwood City Wolverines Notch Win Against Mohawk Area

Lincoln won 66-54 against Mohawk Area on Tuesday with the help of Broc Boariu, who scored 22 points. Ellwood City Wolverines pulled away early with a 22-point first quarter after an impressive 22-2 run, eventually claiming a 36-20 lead by halftime. With a field goal percentage of 47% (7-for-15), Boariu had a great game from the field, also sinking 50% (6-for-12) of threes attempted. Motion Approved: T&M to Regrade Ebony Way

The owners of T&M Hardware have had dreams of expanding the store for nearly two decades and finally, over the past year, they have been making the dream a reality. Earlier this year the owners finished razing the properties next to the store to make room for expansions. Now, after much careful planning and due diligence, they are nearly ready to start construction. The owners plan on using the empty lot to expand the shop an estimated amount of 5,000 square feet, using the additional lot space for a larger parking lot. Animal Hospital Presents Check to Police Department

Ellwood City’s Mayor Anthony J. Court was thrilled to accept a check from Tammy of the Ellwood City Animal Hospital on behalf of the Ellwood City Police K9 Team, Ranger and Sgt. McBride. Just recently Dr. Cindy Mauro of the Ellwood Animal Hospital, Mayor Court and Sgt. McBride participated in a fundraiser so that the K9 Unit could purchase a GPS for K9 Ranger. Mayor Court and the Ellwood City Police Department/K9 Unit send a “Special Thank You” to Dr. Mauro, The Ellwood City Animal Hospital and to all those who participated in the excellent fundraiser.

Bridge Work Expected to Cause Delays, Traffic & 80-Mile Detour

The Pennsylvania Turnpike is using an innovative engineering procedure, Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC), which allows workers to replace bridges in 55 hours instead of requiring a year or more of roadway construction. As a result, there will be a PA Turnpike closure in our area that will likely have a major impact on travel at the end of September. This closure will result in a significant detour that will add more than an hour to travel time. “Motorists will face a lengthy detour that will add more than an hour to their travel times,” PA Turnpike CEO Mark Compton said….

Community Members Encouraged to Partake in Ellwood City Clean Up Day

On Wednesday, July 12, 2017 from 11a.m. – 2p.m., Mayor Anthony J. Court in conjunction with the Jeff Potter Baseball Tour will have an Ellwood City Clean Up Day.  This is a “Community Wide” event and everyone is invited to participate. Those participating will meet at the Ewing Park Pool Parking Lot prior to 11:00 am. After the clean-up, those participating will be at 1:45 p.m. at the Lions Club Shelter, inside Ewing Park. Vests, gloves and bags will be available for the clean-up and drinks and a lite snack will be provided by McDonalds, Johnny’s and Red Hot.

Electric Billings Comparison for April 2017-July 2017 and Corresponding Previous Year

The attached information is being provided by the Borough in order to inform Ellwood City Electric customers of the effect the reduction in the Transmission and Capacity charges set by PlM has had upon the Rate Adjustment (pP A Factor) and customer billings during the months of April 2017 through the upcoming billing in July 2017. Comparisons ofPPA components (Energy Purchased, American Municipal Power-Power Charges, as well as Transmission and Capacity Charges) were used. Borough Council January Meeting Brief

The following is a brief summary of the Ellwood City Borough Council meeting held on Jan. 19: Visitors Ralph Chiappetta, a former council member, asked council if the police department had implemented a schedule change passed by council last year and intended to reduce overtime. Council members replied that as that is Mayor Anthony J. Court’s duty, they are not yet aware if the changes have been implemented. Chiappetta asked council to find out and to authorize Borough Solicitor Ed Leymarie to obtain a writ of mandamus if the mayor doesn’t comply.
