Local Hospital ER Ranks in Top 5 Percent in Country

Jameson Heath System’s Emergency Department has been ranked in the top 5 percent in the nation for emergency medicine excellence, receiving the 2011 Emergency Medicine Excellence Award. An analysis of emergency room data from 2006 to 2008 was conducted in April by HealthGrades, the nation’s leading independent source of physician information and hospital quality ratings. The study looked specifically at the mortality rates of over 4,900 hospitals across the country. BC3 Earns WPCC Golf Championship, Covert Places Second

Butler County Community College men’s golfers Friday won the program’s fourth consecutive team title, the Pioneers’ Jacob Marquardt captured BC3’s fourth individual crown in a row and Lincoln High School graduate Mitchell Covert finished second only after edging the 2023 champion in a sudden-death playoff following regulation play in the postseason tournament. Tickets Available For Wolverines Opening Round Playoff Contest

Ellwood City has qualified for the WPIAL playoffs for the first time since 2011. The #14 seeded Wolverines will travel to face the #3 seeded Washington Prexies on Friday at 7:00 PM at Washington High School Stadium. Kick off is 7:00 p.m. for the opening round contest. Fluharty Claims WPIAL Individual Championship, Ellwood City Finishes 3rd Overall

Lexi Fluharty finished 1st Overall in the WPIAL Class-A Cross Country Championships at White Oak Park in McKeesport on Thursday. The Riverside senior finished with a time of 18:54.50.  Fellow Panther runners Brooke Wissinger (20:48.10) and Isabella D’Allessandro (30:39.90) helped pace the Riverside team effort in the girls Class-A Championships. Fluharty, Wissinger, Custer Qualify For PIAA Cross Country Championships

Three local athletes have qualified for the upcoming PIAA State Cross Country Championships. Riverside junior Lexi Fluharty finished runner-up Thursday afternoon in the WPIAL Class-A Cross Country Championships held at California University of Pennsylvania. Fluharty finished with a time 19:58.4. Joining Fluharty in qualifying for next week’s state championships is fellow junior Brooke Wissinger who finished with a 9th place time of 21:38.4.
