Janey Swanik, 101, formerly of Wampum passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Wyngate Senior Living in Weirton, West Virginia. She was born on June 15, 1916 in Clarksburg, WV. She was one of twelve children born to her Spanish immigrant parents, Jesus and Dolores Artinez Gonzalez The family moved to Langeloth, PA when Janey was a child and she lived there until her marriage to Michael Swanik on July 29, 1937. Boehm Victorious In Pitcher’s Duel For Riverside Both teams were strong on the mound Friday, but the Riverside Panthers defeated South Side 3-1 behind the arm of Gunnar Boehm. Your two-time defending WPIAL Champion Riverside Panthers are slotted as preseason #1 for Class-3A, Section 2 according to an WPIAL baseball social media account.  Following the Panthers in the section ranking is Ellwood City in third place. Riverside’s Kralic Ties WPIAL Record, Takes 1st Place in 100-yard Butterfly

Riverside senior Dean Kralic tied a WPIAL record Thursday at the Class 2A Swimming Championships at the University of Pittsburgh.  In doing so, Kralic took first place in the 100-yard  butterfly in Class-AA. Kralic won the event with a time of 50.29 seconds and joined several Riverside teammates who placed and advanced to PIAA Championships.  Panthers Josiah Shaffer, Dylan Griffith and Donnie Paracca each placed second in the 200 medley relay. Several Pounds of Marijuana Seized According to the criminal complaint, after being stopped for a turn signal violation, Dwight Andre Campbell, 45, of Altoona, Pa., appeared to be extremely nervous – he was sweating excessively and his hands were visibly shaking. The officer detected a strong odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle. After searching the vehicle the officer located approximately five pounds of vacuum sealed marijuana in a box for home security cameras.
