Council to Vote Today on Drug Addiction Treatment Clinic

Ellwood’s newest health care service, Freedom Health Care Services, caused considerable controversy due to its location in a Walnut Ridge residential area. Borough council approved the drug addiction counseling facility in a 4-2 vote, although several residents protested. Confusion ensued when WPXI released an incorrect video describing FHCS as a methadone clinic. Not all who voiced their opinion dissented however, with some expressing hope that the clinic will be another weapon in the battle against drugs in Ellwood City. Since December 2014, there have been at least five overdose deaths in the Ellwood borough alone. FHCS is scheduled to open sometime in 2016.

It’s Time Fitness Brings Full Facility Gym and Personnel Training to Ellwood City Area

After several years in limbo, the Walnut Ridge building was put back to use when Ellwood resident Tony Joseph opened a gym, It’s Time Fitness. Sparing no expense, the gym offers not only conventional weight facilities, but several fitness classes, training rooms for athletes, and additional businesses, such as a hair salon.

koppelMysterious Mini-Nativity Appears on Municipal Building Property

It seems Ellwood City can’t go a holiday season without a Nativity controversy. This year, a resident placed a mini-Nativity on the Municipal Building property around the Fireman’s Memorial, creating an explosion on social media.

Shorty thereafter, the borough removed the Nativity and the owner eventually reclaimed the property and that was the end of the issue.

Police to Start Issuing Citations for Route 351/River Road Stop Sign

In what was by far the  most popular article of 2015, the greater Ellwood area experienced mass confusion when the stop sign at this oft-frequented intersection changed, seemingly without warning. However, the sign was actually changed as a result of several serious accidents at the intersection.

A few days later, the sign’s labeling was changed.
