Ellwood City Medical Center has big changes on the horizon with new staff, new construction, new hospital units and technology being implemented. The hospital will become a medical sanctuary for area residents. When the hospital switched to new ownership in 2017 there were necessary layoffs made to promote hospital growth. Neisa M. Carsele and Zoe Maria Kalantzis, high honor graduates in Lincoln High School’s 2018 class, have added their names to the list of winners of the LHS 1957 class scholarship. Carsele received the annual $5,000.00 scholarship along with a special award of $500.00 For the best essay. Lincoln High School has 120 seniors graduating in the class of 2018. There are eight students who will graduate with high honors. The top eight students listed in alphabetical order: Michael J. Ace, son of Jennifer Ace, participated in the Carpenters Project and was a member of the gifted program, National Honor Society and drama club. Mrs. Josephine M. Massine, 98, of Ellwood City passed away on Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Trinity Oaks Care Center. Mrs. Massine was born on September 3, 1919 in Ellwood City to the late Domenico and Bertha Florio (Flowers) Ierace. She had attended Lincoln High School, and is a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish. House Approves Bernstine Bill to Improve Access to Care in Mental Health Emergency

HARRISBURG – Marking May as Mental Health Awareness Month, the state House of Representatives today voted unanimously to approve legislation, authored by Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence), to remove bureaucratic barriers to behavioral health services for individuals seeking immediate treatment. House Bill 1997 would allow patients in crisis to be instantly “deemed eligible” for care at a behavioral health facility while their Medical Assistance application is being reviewed. “When behavioral health emergencies arise, individuals who are unable to receive immediate care at the appropriate facility are forced to incur costly bills for emergency room visits, or in worse-case scenarios, they become…
