VIDEO: Back Home With Stephen Johns

The 26-year-old Dallas Star and Wampum native Stephen Johns takes his viewers on a tour of his hometown in this published video made available on NHL.com presented by Kia. The 6’4″ 221-pound defenseman finished with 15 points and a plus-10 rating in 75 games last season for the Dallas Stars. Johns played four seasons at Notre Dame, scoring 15 goals and 57 points in 164 games, and led the team to the 2013 Central Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament title. Johns and the Stars play the Pittsburgh Penguins just once this regular season –– Wednesday, November 21st at PPG Paints Arena. 


REPORT: Wolverine Football hoping to take advantage of move down to Class-2A

According to a publish report this week by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Tri-State Sports & News Service, Ellwood City football will be looking to take advantage of a WPIAL reclassification this year. The offense returns eight starters, including QB Ryan Gibbons (5-10, 170, So., QB), while the defense will return seven starters, including senior LB Coulton Cunningham (5-9, 175, Sr., OL-MLB).  A trio of running backs also return for the Wolverines as Rick Petrelli, Rocco Sesti and Donovan Chambers will lead the charge. REPORT: New faces on defense need to make an impact for Riverside

According to a publish report this week by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Tri-State Sports & News Service, the Riverside Panthers will use new faces on defense in hopes of continuing its string of consecutive playoff appearances. Riverside finished with a 9-3 record last year, but lost 16 seniors, and returns only two starters on defense in cornerback LeMarcus Cleckley (6-0, 175, Sr., RB-DB) and lineman Jarrett Speer. Ellwood City 15u Softball Team Brings Home 2018 Lawrence County Championship

The team traveled to historic Dean Park in New Castle on Thursday evening to capture the championship hardware.  They started fast as they plated the first 10 runs of the game in the opening 3 innings to cruise home with an 11-5 victory over the Union Scotties. Potter Baseball Tour Stops In Ellwood City

The Potter Baseball Tour made its ninth annual stop in Ellwood City on Friday, July 13. Led by former Ellwood City baseball standout Jeff Potter, the tour visits over 30 cities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio and Virginia throughout July. The first tour game was played nine years ago on July 2, 2010 at Sanders Field. Since then the tour has become a staple in towns throughout the Middle Atlantic states. Riverside Varsity Claws Back, But Falls Just Short Against Brownsville

Riverside Panthers Varsity’s effort to come back from down four runs in the first inning came up just short, as they fell 6-5 to Brownsville on Tuesday. Riverside scored five runs in the failed comeback on a error in the first, a error in the first, and a single by Drew Speicher in the fifth. Riverside Varsity Will Advance to Next Round of WPIAL Playoffs

With a hard fought 3 to 1 victory, Riverside Baseball Team will advanced to the next round of the WPIAL Playoffs. Both teams were strong on the pitcher’s mound Monday, but Riverside Panthers Varsity defeated Steel Valley 3-1. Riverside  pitchers allowed just three hits to Steel Valley.
