Late Field Goal Lifts Riverside To 9-7 Victory Over Union

Gage Safran’s 38-yard field goal with 5:33 to play proved the difference in Riverside’s 9-7 victory over Union Thursday night at Union. The Panthers held a decisive advantage in total offense outgaining the host Scotties 364 to 147, but it wasn’t until a drive that began with nine minutes exact on the clock that they were able to take the lead back for good. Mason Holler intercepted Scotties’ quarterback Jordyn Kelley at their 31-yard line and Riverside proceeded to move the football 48 yards in ten plays, where place kicker Gage Safran capped the drive by drilling a 38-yard field goal….


Ellwood City Boys XC Team Off To Unbeaten Start To Season

The runners of Ellwood City boys and girls cross country teams began their regular season with a matchup at Laurel on Tuesday afternoon versus the host Spartans, Union, and Beaver County Christian. The Wolverine Varsity Boys took control of their section with a victory Tuesday and now stand at 3-0 on the season.  The boys managed to defeat the field at Laurel, placing their top 5 runners in the top 6 of the competition. Halftime Lead Evaporates, Wolverines Fall To Neshannock

Ellwood City entered halftime of Friday night’s non-section match-up against Neshannock up two touchdowns, but the visiting Lancers rallied and knocked off the Wolverines 26-20 at Helling Stadium. Ethan Beaman hauled in an 8-yard touchdown pass from Jino Mozzocio with only 13 seconds remaining in regulation to provide the decisive score. Lin Goes Low, Ellwood City Golf Knocks Off Riverside

Wolverine golfer Alex Lin fired a low round of 34 Thursday afternoon at Connoqunessing Country Club to lead the visiting Ellwood City boys golf team to a 191-222 victory over rival Riverside. Lin was among a cavalry of Ellwood City golfers who shot sub-40 in the victory. Jaxon Rozanski (35) and Jordan Keller (39) joined Lin with strong rounds for Ellwood City. Riverside Defeats Northgate 36-30

Mason Holler rushed for two third quarter touchdowns as Riverside rallied and held off Northgate 36-30 Friday night. Trailing 12-10 at halftime, the visiting Panthers used a 5-yard and 10-yard touchdown run by Holler to ease ahead 22-18 entering the final frame. Less than a minute into the 4th quarter, quarterback Aidan Gaydosz found Hunter Garcia on a 92-yard scoring play to stretch the Panther advantage to a 10-point advantage that proved to be insurmountable for the host Flames. The Ellwood City defense put up a resounding effort Friday night on the road Friday night, shutting out the Shenango Wildcats 21-0. The Wolverines defense held the Wildcats to 47 yards of total offense and forced two turnovers in the victory. Offensively, Tyler Smiley tossed two first half touchdowns, first a 2-yard toss to Anthony Barberio in the first quarter and then finding DaiLonn Currie on a 8-yard scoring strike in the second quarter.
