Seven Panthers, Two Wolverines Set To Compete In PIAA Track & Field Championships

Seven Riverside Panthers and two Ellwood City Wolverines will compete in the 2022 PIAA Track & Field Championships scheduled for Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Seth Grove Stadium on the campus of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. Alden Wetzel, a WPIAL Champion in the 400m dash (49.94) is among the five Panther boys competing in individual championships. Wetzel joins fellow Panthers Ty Fluharty, Teddy McHale, and Joe Reed. Walk-Off Seals Win For Serra Catholic Against Riverside

It came down to the last play, but Riverside was on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat to top-seeded Serra Catholic on Monday in the WPIAL Class-2A semifinals at Plum High School. Serra Catholic advances to play Neshannock in the WPIAL Class-2A Championship Game next week. Panthers Hold Off Carmichaels To Advance, Wolverines Fall To Southmoreland

The Riverside Panthers held on Thursday afternoon, escaping late inning jams, to defeat Carmichaels 3-2 and advance to the WPIAL Class-2A semifinals. The Ellwood City Wolverines softball team saw an early lead evaporate quickly as they were defeated by Southmoreland 14-4 in the WPIAL Class-3A quarterfinals. Alden Wetzel Earns WPIAL Gold, Seven Panthers Qualify For PIAA

Riverside Panther runner Alden Wetzel earned WPIAL gold Wednesday, finishing in 1st place in the 400m dash at the WPIAL Individual Championship meet at Slippery Rock University. The junior finished with a time of 49.94 to earn gold. Wetzel also placed 6th in the high jump with a mark of 5’9″. Wetzel joined six other Panther individuals, and two relay teams, whom qualified for the PIAA State Championships next weekend in Shippensburg. Panthers, Lady Wolverines Both Victorious In WPIAL Opening Rounds

The Riverside Panthers baseball team and the Ellwood City Wolverines softball team each earned opening round victories Tuesday. #5 seeded Riverside knocked off Chartiers-Houston in the Class 2A first round while the #4 seed Wolverines defeated Beaver Falls in the WPIAL Class 3A softball playoffs first round. Riverside Boys Track & Field Finishes 2nd Overall In WPIAL Team Championships

A fifth straight WPIAL Championship eluded Riverside on Wednesday as the Panthers boys track and field team finished a close second place in the 2022 WPIAL Class 2A Team Championships at Peters Township High School. The Panthers fell to Shenango after nipping Greensburg Central Catholic, 79-71, and defeating South Park 101.50-48.50 Shenango clinched its first ever title by winning the 1,600-meter relay to edge Riverside. Four Lincoln High School lettermen will be continuing their athletic careers at Westminster College this fall. The four seniors recently signing athletic letters of intent, according to John Sovich, Lincoln Senior High School principal, and Curt Agostinelli, Ellwood City’s athletic director, are Stephen Antuono, Alyssa Jeffcoat, Angelina Nardone, and Kayla Servick. SPORTS: Panthers Drop Two To Shenango; Wolverines Defeat Western Beaver; JH Softball Wins

The Panthers boys baseball team met the Shenango Wildcats this week for a crucial home-and-home series to vie for section championship rights. Riverside came up on the short end of both games, falling twice in one-run defeats. On Monday, Riverside battled the Wildcats into an extra-innings affair before a timely squeeze bunt by Wildcats’ Braden Ziegler in the ninth inning scored the game-winning run for the 2-1 a Shenango victory. Reisinger Among 3 Recent NJCAA Division III All-Americans To Be Honored Saturday

Former Lincoln High School standout Breanna Reisinger will be among three athletes honored Saturday at BC3. Reisinger, Morgan Jack, and Aslyn Pry, all first-year student-athletes, have been selected as National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III All-Americans since December and will be recognized Saturday at the BC3 Field House. Reisinger is a graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City; Jack, of Knoch High and Pry, of Moniteau. Reisinger led BC3’s volleyball team in 2021 with 205 kills and Jack, with 635 assists. Riverside Track & Field Teams Shine In WPIAL Semifinals

Both Riverside girls and boys track and field teams found great success during the WPIAL Class 2A team playoff semifinals Wednesday afternoon at Riverside High School’s Memorial Field. Each went unbeaten with their team performances. The Panthers boys defeated North Catholic 87-63, Carlynton 120-26, Deer Lakes 115-34, and New Brighton 108-41.
