Wolverines Earn Top Seed, Playoff Tickets Now On Sale

The “Path To The Pete” starts Monday for the Ellwood City boys basketball team as the WPIAL Class-3A Playoffs are set to begin. The Wolverines earned a #1 seed after its 20-2 regular season. The team went undefeated in section play. Playoff tickets will be available this week in the Lincoln High School Student tickets are $5.00 and are available on Wednesday 2/16 and Thursday 2/17 in the high school office.  Adult tickets are $7.00 and will be available in the big gym hallway from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 17th only.  Tickets can also be purchased…

ECASD Board of Directors Hires Track Coaches

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors hired Alan Marsh and Nathan Brown to serve as co-head varsity track coaches during its February 10 meeting. Historically, the track team had one head coach and four assistant coaches. Because of the hiring of co-head coaches, the team will have only three assistants this year, according to ECASD Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley. Wolverine Wrestling Wraps Up Regular Season, Senior Night

The Ellwood City Wrestling team wrapped up its regular season this week with two matches, including their senior night on Wednesday evening. The team was defeated by Sharon 45-30 at home Wednesday and also fell to Slippery Rock 34-30 on the road Thursday. The team will next look towards tournament On Wednesday, two seniors Jaden Stull (his first year wrestling) and Donavin Stiffler (his second year wrestling) were recognized prior to the match.  For Ellwood City, Ben Gallenz (126 lb) pinned Camden Reiser, 2:34, and Michael Swesey (172 lb) pinned Muawiyah Maani, 0:32 for victories.  Ellwood also earned three victories…

Lady Wolverines Defeat Rival Riverside On Senior Night

Five Ellwood City seniors were recognized prior to Thursday Night’s rivalry game versus Riverside. The Lady Wolverines proceeded to defeat the visiting Panthers 49-18. Three players paced Ellwood City in double figures led by sophomore Claire Noble and her game-high 16 points.  Seniors Kyla Servick (14 points) and Emily Sedgwick (10 points) helped the Wolverines to victory. Senior Gina Flumer chipped in with a fourth quarter layup. PHOTOS: Wolverines Defeat Beaver Falls on Senior Night

Ellwood City remained unbeaten in section play, one night after clinching an outright section championship, with a 65-52 victory over Beaver Falls on Tuesday. Senior Steve Antuono led the charge with a game-high 24 points (10-12 FTs, two 3-pointers, six assists, two steals) while two fellow seniors, Alexander Roth (14 points, four rebounds, four assists) and Peyton O’Brien (13 points, two blocks), joined him in double figures. Roth Nets 1,000th Career Point, Wolverines Clinch First-Ever Section Championship

Two records were set Tuesday night at Mohawk when the Ellwood City Wolverines defeated the host Warriors 57-31. First, in the second quarter, Alexander Roth connected on the first of his two free throw attempts to earn his 1,000th career point. The senior scored 19 of his team-high 20 points (two 3-pointers, four rebounds) in the first half to help the Wolverines gain a 36-14 halftime advantage. Second, and at the final buzzer, the Wolverines (18-2 Overall, 8-0 Section 1-3A) clinched an outright section championship, the first section championship in school history. Ellwood City Wrestling Set To Finish Season Strong; Senior Night Wednesday

The Ellwood City Wrestling team is set to have its only home match of the season on Wednesday, February 9th against Sharon. The Wolverines (3-7 Overall, 2-2 League) will recognize its seniors during the home match for a Senior Night festivities. The team features two seniors, Jaden Stull (his first year wrestling) and Donavin Stiffler (his second year wrestling). The team will celebrate Senior Night and then varsity will wrestle beginning at 7:00 p.m. There will be no junior high wrestlers in attendance as a rescheduled tournament has the junior high team at a MAC tournament in Freedom on Wednesday….

PHOTOS: EC Girls Cruise Past Riverside, EC Boys Knock Off Neshannock

The Ellwood City Girls Basketball team used an impressive 23-3 first quarter spurt to cruise to a 47-15 victory over rival Riverside on Tuesday night. Three Wolverines finished in double figures led by senior guard Kyla Servick who finished with a game-high 12 points. Saige Chambers (11 points) and Emily Sedgwick (10 points) joined Servick in double figures for an Ellwood City team (7-9 Overall, 4-5 Section 1-3A) that has now collected three consecutive victories. Ellwood City Little Wolverines Announces 2022 Cheer Boot Camp

The Ellwood City Little Wolverines will hold a cheer boot camp over the course of three Saturdays in late February and early March The camp is for children currently in grades 2nd through 5th and will be held on Saturday, February 19th, Saturday, February 26th, and Saturday March 5th from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on each Saturday. The camp is scheduled to take place at Diamond Dance Academy, located at 310 1st Street, in Ellwood City.  The cost is $35.00 per child which includes a t-shirt. Ellwood City used a decisive first quarter to race out to an early lead in its eventual 60-45 victory over rival Riverside Friday evening at Riverside High School. The Wolverines used 10 first quarter points by sophomore Joseph Roth to race out to a 19-4 advantage.  The 15 point cushion held through halftime as the teams played even through halftime with Ellwood City ahead 31-16 at the break.
