ECASD Bocce Team to Compete in Regional Playoff

“Come on, Now” Who wouldn’t want to be on or support the Ellwood City Area School District’s Bocce Team? Since 2017, the team has been growing and succeeding. In fact, the team is headed to SRU today to compete for the regional playoff after taking 1st place and the gold medal in section playoffs. They defeated Shenango—last year’s gold medal team—12 to 3. Ellwood City Native Receives CoSIDA University Achievement Award

Ellwood City native Doug Tammaro has received the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) University Division Achievement Award. Tammaro, the Arizona State Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, has been recognized as the top Sports Information Director at the NCAA Division I level as a part of CoSIDA’s weeklong Special Awards announcement. The award is given annually to the associate or assistant director in the sports information field who have made outstanding contributions to the field of sports information. Riverside Swimming Collects WPIAL Relay Golds, Roth Sets WPIAL Record

The Riverside Boys Swimming team collected a WPIAL Gold in the 200 and 400-yard Freestyle relay events and set WPIAL records – both collectively and individually – along the way during the WPIAL Swimming Championships this past weekend at the University of Pittsburgh. The 200-yard Freestyle relay Gold was the program’s third consecutive crown. Riverside Swim Team Defends Section Title, Eyes WPIAL Championships

For a fourth consecutive year, the Riverside High School Swim Team has earned section championship bragging rights. The boys finished a perfect 8-0 in their Class-AA section with their latest victory against the Beaver Bobcats on February 17th The co-op swimming team consisting of Ellwood City and Riverside athletes will next look towards defending various titles at the WPIAL Championships later this week, Thursday, March 3rd and Friday, March 4th at Trees Pool on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. Tomak, Wilmington Hockey Upset Bishop Canevin In Overtime

An overtime game-winning goal by Ellwood City’s Drake Tomak propelled the Wilmington hockey team to 2-1 upset victory over Bishop Canevin Thursday night. The loss was only Bishop Canevin’s second of the year which were both at the hands of the Greyhounds. The Crusaders got on the scoreboard first with the only goal in the first period, but Wilmington evened the score in the 2nd period on a power play goal by Andrew Cartwright (Union) with assists going to Noah Monstwil (Mohawk) and Davis Phanco (Wilmington). Ellwood City came out firing from deep Monday night as they easily ousted visiting Summit Academy 72-42 in the opening round of the WPIAL Class-3A Playoffs Monday night. The Wolverines finished with 14 3-pointers in the contest, including five in a 23-point first quarter outburst. Ellwood City led by a dozen after the first quarter and never looked back. Ellwood City opens up its WPIAL title defense Monday night against Summit Academy at Lincoln High School at 7:00 p.m. in the opening round of the 2022 WPIAL Class 3A Playoffs. Ellwood City wrestlers Ben Gallenz and Derek Allen each earned three victories in the WPIAL AA Wrestling Championships over the weekend at Canon-McMillan High School. Allen earned a 7th place finish while Gallenz was defeated in the third consolation round of his weight class. Fellow wrestler, and senior, Donovan Stiffler earned two victories in his weight classes. Riverside Archery Team Hosting State Qualifying Tournament This Weekend

Riverside Archery’s first at home tournament is this weekend in the high school gym. The state qualifying archery tournament begins Saturday, with eight flights on the hour from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Individual awards for Top 5 girls and Top 5 boys in each division: Middle School and High School.
