Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation to Celebrate Opening Day this Saturday

The Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation will celebrate the opening of the summer baseball season on Saturday, April 30 with a parade starting at 11 a.m. in Ewing Park. Events include a home run derby, dunk tank, carnival games, inflatables, prizes and trophies, a 50/50 raffles, a Chinese auction, and more. There will also be a Pitch, Hit & Run event open to boys and girls ages 7 to 14 beginning at 4 p..m. in Sanders Field in Ewing Park.


Shaler Defeats EC Jr. High 10-3

The Lady Wolverines put up a valiant effort Thursday evening but Shaler scored four runs in the top of the seventh to come away with a 10-3 victory. Maura Agostinelli and Zoe Maine led the six hit attack with two singles apiece. Taylor Covert had a two out of two run single and Madi Krugh also contributed a single to the cause. Softball/Baseball Weekly Wrap Up: Lady Wolverines Win Extended Game

The Ellwood girls softball team mercy-ruled New Brighton on Tuesday and outlasted Laurel in an extended 11-inning game on Thursday, continuing their undefeated streak. On Tuesday’s home game, Ellwood’s offense had a decisive first inning, with 14 runs. The game continued until the fourth inning, when the Lady Wolverine’s won by mercy rule 14-2. Ariana Garroway had the most RBI’s with four, and Natalie Greco earned three runs. In batting, Greco, Garroway and Skyla Greco each had two hits. Ellwood Boys Track Team Comes Close to Mohawk

The Ellwood City boys track team came up close to Mohawk in a home meet yesterday, losing 76-74. However, several Ellwood athletes grab first places, including Billy Lott in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs and River Kelly in the javelin and discus throws. After four straight lopsided losses, the Lady Wolverines showed significant improvement as they battled Seneca Valley Tuesday afternoon. After walking 10 batters in the first two innings and spotting the Raiders a 6-0 lead, the young pitching staff led by Madi Krugh, yielded just one more free pass and two additional runs over the final four frames. Ellwood City Softball Team Masters Three Conference Games

The Ellwood City softball team swung past three conference opponents in three days. The Lady Wolverines shut down Riverside 15-0 on Thursday, defeated Neshannock 11-8 on Friday and finished the weekend with a victory against Mohawk 7-1 on Saturday. On Thursday’s away game against rival Riverside, Ellwood’s Skyla Greco pitched a near perfect game, striking out 12 batters as her team defeated Riverside 15-0.
