Ellwood Wolverine Wrestlers Warm Up for Season at Hampton Team Duels

The Ellwood City Wolverine wrestlers had a fine individual showing at the Hampton Team Duels with 25 match wins. The competition, held at Hampton High School on Saturday, Dec. 5, pitched five teams against each other in a tournament series and inaugurates the varsity wrestling season. The basketball season officially kicks off today with the Tip Off tournament classic. The Ellwood City Wolverines will host five other teams today and tomorrow in the Lincoln High School Big Gym. Ellwood Basketball Season Passes Now Available

Season passes for this year’s Varsity Boys’ Basketball are on sale now in the high school office. The cost of the passes are $10 for students and $20 for adults. These passes are good for all home games, excluding the tip off tournament Dec. 4 and 5. If you are a student who bought a Super Fan shirt in the fall and still have it, you will not need to purchase a season pass.


Unusually Warm Thanksgiving Increases Gobbler’s Gallop Turnout

There’s nothing like a good early morning run to work up a turkey appetite. For twenty years, the Gobbler’s Gallop, held at Riverside schools, has made people earn their turkey with a vigorous and usually cold race. This year, winter has been a little late and a higher than average number of runners signed up, taking advantage of the warm and sunny day. Ellwood City’s Billy Lott Headed for States

Billy Lott will take his second trip to the PIAA cross country state championships at Hershey Park. The Ellwood City junior finished 17th overall in the WPIAL championship on Thursday with a time of 17:50. Lott, who also qualified for states his sophomore year, missed part of the season, including the Tri-County Invitation, due to a back injury and subsequently had less time to prepare for the WPIALs. Beaver Thrashes Wolverines in Last Season Game

The Ellwood City Wolverines lost their opportunity to close the regular season with a winning record. The Beaver Bobcats thrashed the Wolverines 48-17 in Friday’s away game. Senior Nick Ioanilli had two runs in the second and third quarters and senior Justin Baney kicked a 23 yard field goal in the first quarter. The Wolverines were unable to score sufficiently to outweigh the Bobcat’s offense. Beaver’s Darius Wise ran for four touchdowns totaling over 200 yards, including a 93 yard run in the second quarter. Despite a shaky start to the season, the Ellwood City Wolverines are on the path to a winning season. The Wolverines collected their fourth win on Senior Night against Laurel with a final score of 50-13. Twelve seniors: Carlo Agostinelli, Tyler Ballard, Justin Baney, DJ Barrett, Devin Cortez, James Cunningham, David Deloia, Adam Foreman, Logan Gibbons, Nick Ioanilli, Keanu Jefferson, and River Kelly, were honored at halftime.
