Delinquent Utility Bill Information for Landlords and Tenants

Due to some ongoing misconceptions between the electric utility, landlords, and tenants, the Borough has released two informational letters discussing the manner in which delinquent utility bills can best be addressed. If a landlord or tenant has not already received the information, they can do so by checking the Borough website or a hard copy may be obtained directly through the Ellwood City Municipal Building. Deadly Crash in North Sewickley

A crash that happened slightly before 7a.m. this morning on Route 65 going toward New Brighton has claimed the life of a teenager and injured another. According to another news source, 19-year-old old Isaiah Hunter of New Brighton appeared to drift into the opposing lane of traffic, causing a head on collision with an SUV. Hunter’s car set on fire while other drivers attempted to free him, but he did not survive. PPA Comparison: Nov. 2016 Through Feb. 2017 VS. Previous Year

The attached information is being provided in order to inform Ellwood City Electric customers of the effect the reduction in the Transmission and Capacity charges set by PJM has had upon the Rate Adjustment (PPA Factor) and customer billings during the months of November 2016 through the upcoming billing in February 2017. Comparisons of PPA components (Energy Purchased, American Municipal Power-Power Charges, as well as Transmission and Capacity Charges) were used. Suboxone Clinic Opens in Ellwood City

Controversially, a suboxone clinic located on Pershing Street only a few blocks from the hospital has recently opened as an attempt to combat opiate addictions in the area. After the positive results of operating another suboxone clinic at their Bridgeville location, Freedom Healthcare Services was requested to open another clinic for the cause in Ellwood City. New Castle Sanitation Authority Receives $11 Million in State Financing

The New Castle Sanitation Authority was today (January 25) awarded an $11 million low-interest loan from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) to provide sewage service in Shenango Township, according to Senator Elder Vogel Jr. (R-47). The project involves the installation of more than 220,000 feet of service lines and several other major improvements to the current system. A sewage disposal needs survey in Shenango Township found that 69 percent of the on-lot disposal systems were malfunctioning. “This project will address serious contamination issues caused by the release of untreated or partially treated sewage into local waterways by malfunctioning systems…


Ellwood City United Fund Ends Jan. 31

The United Fund is closing its 2017 campaign officially on Jan. 31, which started on October 1, 2016, coming up over $9,358 short of its goal of $50,000. The money raised is distributed to the agencies that service the needs of the area and community. The United Fund released its final disbursement for the year 2016 to all agencies. It was hoped that the disbursement will carry the agencies through the winter months. Bernstine to Serve on Four State House Committees

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) today announced he was assigned to serve on the House Aging and Older Adult Services, Finance, Health, and Game and Fisheries committees during the 2017-18 legislative session.
