Mr. Joseph E. Streit, Jr., 87, of North Sewickley Township passed away on Monday, July 20th, 2026 at the Heritage Valley Medical Center in Beaver.
Mr. Streit was born in Ellwood City to the late Joseph E. and Cora Belle (McKinney) Streit, Sr. on May 31st, 1939. He had graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1957. Joe worked at the JC Murphy Co. in Ellwood City for 3 years, then at the Ellwood City Knitting Mill for 4 years, after which at the Ellwood City Forge for 39 years and 10 months as a machine operator retiring on February 28th, 2002.
Joe is a member of Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church where he was a longtime volunteer at the church’s Annual Bazaar where he could be found in the outside kitchen, along side his wife Sally, cooking fish and peperoni puffs. He and his wife also served as a campground host at the Tionesta Lake Outflow Campground and at Chapman State Park.
An outdoorsman, Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, and held membership with the NRA, Marian Hill Sportsman Club, Castlewood Rod & Gun Club, and Chippewa Rifle Club.
He is survived by his daughter Jodi Lynn Powell of Ellwood City, son and daughter-in-law Mark and Paula Streit of Ellwood City, 2 step grandchildren, 8 step greatgrandchildren, 1 step great-great-grandchild, sisters Sally Ann (Raymond) Rosepink of Freedom and Mary Catherine (William) Jones of New Castle, and his companion Nancy Piecuch.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Sally J. (Stanford) Streit whom he married on June 28th, 1958 and passed away on March 8th, 2019.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and on Friday from 11-11:30 am at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.. A mass of Christian burial will follow at Noon at Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church. Entombment then will be at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Resurrection Mausoleum.
