PHOTOS: “Walk To Honor” In Ellwood City

The annual Ellwood City Memorial Day parade was held on Monday, May 27. The parade began on the Veterans Bridge on Fifth Street at 10:00 a.m and proceeded to Crescent Avenue, over to Eighth Street, down to Lawrence Avenue, back to Fifth and then onto Spring Avenue into Legion Park, where the 45-minute memorial event was held. The parade traveled to several veterans, local leaders spoke, the borough’s civic choral performed, and there was a flag-raising ceremony. Ellwood City Library’s 2019 Summer Programs

Ellwood City Library has a stellar variety of Summer Programs for 2019! Book Bunch starts in June for kids having completed third grade. Each child receives a free book each month that he or she attends, is treated to pizza for lunch, and fun activities based on the book. Parents need to sign up third graders to attend Book Bunch now. A Universe Of Stories Comes To Franklin Township

This summer, the Chippewa Branch of the Beaver County Library System will be bringing a universe of stories during summer story times. Parents, bring your preschool age children to the Franklin Township Community Park on Walnut Street for stories, songs, and crafts. Storytimes will be held on Thursday in June, July, and August. The Thursdays in June fall on the 6th, 13th, and 20th, in July on the 11th and 18th, and it will conclude in August on the 1st, the 8th, and the 15th. (Slippery Rock, PA) Butler County Community College golfers Tucker Skerbetz and Carmen Oliva shot second-round 78s Tuesday to lead the Pioneers to their fourth National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Region XX crown and into the NJCAA national championships in Chautauqua, N.Y., in June. Kids Read Now Comes To North Side Primary

On May 16, North Side Primary held a Kids Read Now reading night to kick off their newly adopted summer reading program. This program helps kids avoid losing their reading skills they gained during the school year, so when they return in the fall teachers will not have to play catch-up for as long. “[Kids Read Now was] designed to eliminate the ‘summer slide’,” Principal Christine Gibson said. “[The program is] new and exciting for the kids.” The children who participate are chosen by their teachers. Realtor.com journalist, Becky Bracken, put together a nationwide list of ten Victorian style homes under $300,000 and one Ellwood City, Pennsylvania property made the list.
