6 Riv-Ell students receive BC3’s Workplace Certificate in Entrepreneurship

(Ellwood City, PA) Butler County Community College’s Class of 2019 was its largest of the century with 599 graduates – 14 more than in 2017, its previous top class since 2000. Five-hundred-twenty-seven graduates received at least one associate degree, and 72 at least one certificate from BC3, which held its 2019 commencement exercises at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Field House on BC3’s main campus in Butler Township. Ellwood City’s Memorial Day Parade

Ellwood City’s Memorial Day parade will be held May 27th. The parade will start at 10 a.m. on the Veterans Bridge on Fifth Street. It will travel to Crescent Avenue, over to Eighth Street, down to Lawrence Avenue, back to Fifth and then take Spring Avenue into Legion Park, where a 45-minute memorial event will be held. Several veterans and local leaders will speak, the borough’s civic chorale will perform, and a flag-raising ceremony held. Award For BC3 President Reflects “Community Connection”

(Butler, PA) Dr. Nick Neupauer, president of Butler County Community College since 2007, has been selected as the recipient of the third Jean B. Purvis Community Cornerstone Award, which honors those who have made significant contributions to Butler County and who, when recognizing a need, “try to fill it,” the award’s 97-year-old namesake said. Donation Made To ECPD K-9 Fund

Anthony Ovial Learning Support Coordinator representing Lawrence County Career and Technical Center (Lawrence County VoTech) donated $400.00 to the Ellwood City Police Department K-9 Fund. On April 18th Ellwood City Police Department K-9/Ranger did a demonstration for the students at the LCCTC as part of the veterinary program. The program was part of the Peer Leadership week at LCCTC. Bernstine to Host Free Paper Shredding Event on May 25

ELLWOOD CITY – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) will host a free paper shredding event on Saturday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Wurtemburg-Perry Fire Hall, 425 Portersville Road, Ellwood City. Fireworks Fundraiser Surpasses Goal: $9,000 Donated So Far

Ellwood City will not only have its fireworks display this year at the festival, it will be a display with some extra bang. Eric Rayner the 26-year-old Ellport man who has been the face of the Save The Ellwood City Fireworks fundraiser announced on May 9 that the $5,000 goal was met and an additional $4,00o was raised bringing the current total to $9,000. Rayner said, based on community input, any money raised over the original goal will be split 45 percent toward a larger fireworks display and 55 percent saved for next year’s display. “It’s been an honor to…

Ellwood City Area School District to Employ Armed Guards

Thanks to a grant, Ellwood City Area School District will have two armed school police officers. The $156,400 grant provided by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency will allow the district to employ the two officers for two years. Superintendent Joseph Mancini said a security assessment’s findings led the district to apply for the grant and allocate the funding to be used to hire armed personnel. He said that assessment revealed that the Ellwood City School District was the only one in the county that did not have some type of security personnel on duty during school hours. That…

Senate Approves Vogel Bill, Other “Farming First” Measures

The Senate approved a “Farming First” legislative package this week that will help promote and support Pennsylvania’s agriculture industry, according to Senate Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee Chairman Senator Elder Vogel (R-47). The package, which includes a bill sponsored by Senator Vogel to help new farmers get started in the industry, now goes to the House of Representatives for consideration. “These bills are key parts of our effort to help maintain the viability and profitability of Pennsylvania’s agriculture industry now and for years to come,” said Senator Vogel, who operates a family farm in Beaver County that was established in…
