EC Historical Society Scholarship Winners Announced

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will meet Monday, May 13 at 7:00 pm. Two scholarships of $1,500.00 each will be given at this meeting.  Two high school senior graduating students, that will further their education, will be the recipients.  Lincoln High School Gina Lynn DiCarlo and Riverside High School senior Isabella Marie Pansera will receive these awards. These students have been selected by the History Scholarship Committee; Mary May, Kay Houk, and Barbara Mastropietro. Applicants were required to write a 400—600-word essay on the subject of Ellwood City Area history.  Gina’s essay was titled The History of Rock Point…

Riverside’s promenade is scheduled for 6:30 pm on Friday, May 10. Students will arrive at the high school cafeteria by 5:30, where formal photos can be taken. Promenade in the gym begins at 6:20, where seating is free. At 6:30, the promenade will begin in the high school auditorium, where seats are $5.00. The theme for prom is Midnight in Manhattan. Bernstine Introduces Bill to Eliminate Concealed Carry Permit Requirement in PA

HARRISBURG – Coinciding with a Second Amendment rights rally held today in Harrisburg, Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) unveiled “constitutional carry” legislation, which would no longer require law-abiding citizens to obtain a license to carry a concealed firearm in Pennsylvania. “If a citizen passes a criminal background check, it is patently unjust and unconstitutional to add layers of bureaucratic regulations on those who are least likely to commit a crime,” said Bernstine, a vocal pro-Second Amendment lawmaker. “The current process is a duplicative abuse of the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners.” Bernstine’s bill would make available an optional concealed carry…


$4,357 Raised for Fireworks; Still Time to Donate

Fireworks Fundraiser draws closer to $5,000 goal. “We’ve received many donations and t shirt orders from people in the community and some people who don’t even live here,” said Eric Rayner, organizer of the fundraiser. “I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of such an amazing community.” As of May 6, $4,357 has been raised toward the $5,000 goal. The most recent donation was made by Bud Mazzant in combination with Berkshire Hathaway of Cranberry. They donated $500. Perry Township Annual Clean-Up Day

On May 11 Perry Township will be holding their Annual Clean-Up Day. The event will begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 12:00 p.m. There will be a $10.00 fee for each load whether it’s pick-up or automobile. For any load larger than a pick-up or automobile, a fee of $50.00 per load will be charged. There will be two collection sites on at the parking lots of the Perry Township Municipal Building and the Wurtemburg Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department. Kids Read Now Comes To North Side Primary

On Thursday, May 16 from 6-7pm, North Side Primary is hosting Kids Read Now Family Reading Night. Kids Read Now is a nationwide organization that pairs with school districts to keep reading a priority, even throughout the summer months. The goal is to close the achievement gap and eliminate the summer reading slide that occurs during the summer break. Mayor Anthony Court announced today, with the beginning of summer upon us, the Ellwood City residents will once again turn their properties into beautiful landscapes, bringing our neighborhoods back to life.
