Ellwood City School District Closed Friday For District-Wide Safety Training

The Ellwood City Area School District will be closed on Friday, September 2nd for a district-wide safety training. The district will also remained closed on Monday, September 5th in observance of the Labor Day holiday. “The entire faculty and staff will be participating in an active shooter training on Friday,” said Superintendent Wesley Shipley in a statement. “Because this training is designed for all employees of the district, all district offices and buildings will be closed for the entire day on Friday.” Shipley advised to not be alarmed if you see an increased number of police personnel and vehicles around…

Wampum American Legion Resuming Its All You Can Eat Breakfast Event

After a summer break, the Wampum American Legion Post 749 will be hosting its next All You Can Eat Breakfast on Saturday, September 17th. The group took a break in July and August and are back to serving breakfast for the community. September’s breakfast will be hosted at the Wampum American Legion Club, 436 Beaver Street, Wampum, PA. The breakfast is scheduled to take place from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and will feature scrambled eggs, hash browns, french toast, sausage, biscuits and gravy, bacon, and toast. Ellwood City Storytelling Festival Returns Next Month

Ellwood City Community Enrichment and the Ellwood City Area Public Library will be hosting Ellwood City’s Storytelling Festival on Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 4:00pm – 7:30pm in Ewing Park, Ellwood City, PA. The festival is a beloved community event that features free activities for children and professional storytellers. This year, the featured storytellers are Regina Rees, Dr. Sparks, Mike Perry, Tim Hartman, and Bill Pate. Members of Ellwood City Italian American Heritage Foundation (ECIAHF) met for their monthly meeting August 26,2022 at the Ellwood City Area Historical Society. President Barbara Mastropietro conducted a short business meeting. The group opened with a Grateful Prayer and World War II Veteran and Hero Mr. Guy Prestia led the Pledge of Allegiance. In the absence of Secretary Virginia Ottaviani, Phyllis Fusco volunteered to take the minutes. Due to time restraints Treasurer Kathy Gorzkowski relinquished the office to volunteer Cherlyn Rangel. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: On Wednesday, August 24th, at approximately 7:58 p.m., PSP New Castle responded to a reported trespassing on Rim Road, Slippery Rock Township. Upon arrive a 57-year-old Ellwood City female stated that an unknown male and female broke her antique ladder, valued at $800.00, that was hanging from the front porch of the residence. The victim provided trail camera footage which showed a female in a red dress and a male in black shorts and t-shirt on the front porch of the residence. There are currently no suspects. Butler Health System Hosting Monkeypox Vaccine Clinic

Butler Health System was recently allocated a limited amount of the Jynneos smallpox/monkeypox vaccine and will be hosting a clinic at Butler Memorial Hospital (One Hospital Way, Butler, PA) on Tuesday, August 30th. These spots are limited and will be by appointment only, no walk-ins accepted. The vaccine is a two-dose series, given 4 weeks apart and individuals must meet certain criteria as defined by the Pennsylvania Department of Health to be eligible. Lincoln High School Pie Festival, Riverside Panther Night This Week!

Both Ellwood City and Riverside school districts will kick off their respective back to school seasons with community events on Thursday, August 25th. Ellwood City will host its annual Lincoln High School Marching Blue Band Pie Festival at the high school gymnasium. Doors for the Pie Festival open at 6:00 p.m., and the show starts at 7:00 p.m.. The band will perform selections from their 2022 pre-game and halftime shows, all fall sports teams will be introduced, and you can eat pie.
