POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF:
On Wednesday, August 24th, at approximately 7:58 p.m., PSP New Castle responded to a reported trespassing on Rim Road, Slippery Rock Township. Upon arrive a 57-year-old Ellwood City female stated that an unknown male and female broke her antique ladder, valued at $800.00, that was hanging from the front porch of the residence. The victim provided trail camera footage which showed a female in a red dress and a male in black shorts and t-shirt on the front porch of the residence. There are currently no suspects.

BURGLARY/TRESPASSING:
According to a criminal complaint, on June 26th at approximately 11:26 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence on Park Avenue for a light on inside a vacant apartment. Upon arrival police identified Colao, 40 of Ellwood City, and Edward Laurain, 52, of Ellwood City sitting inside the residence. Colao admitted she was attempting to cook suspected Methamphetamine prior to police arrival. Colao and Laurain were not permitted inside the abandoned apartment and both were placed into custody. Multiple items of drug paraphernalia namely glass pipes, a green plastic straw and a blue straw both with powder residue, and aluminum tin oil with burn marks were located during the search incident to arrest. Colao and Laurain are charged with Burglary, Criminal Trespassing, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Drug Paraphernalia.



POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE:
Bronson Lane, 33, of Ellwood City, is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance after an incident on August 12th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 10:59 p.m., police observed Lane driving with operating privileges under suspension and attempted to conduct a traffic stop near a parking lot at the southwest corner of the intersection of Fourth Street and Lawrence Avenue. The vehicle made an abrupt stop and Lane exited and began to run towards Bell Avenue and was later detained. Lane was questioned and suspected crack cocaine was found in a cigarette box that was discarded by Lane while he had fled. Lane was found to have an active warrant and transported to ECPD.

BURGLARY:
On August 13th at 3:00PM. PSP New Castle were dispatched to the Three Rivers Aggregates, Wampum Borough, for the report of a burglary. The investigation showed that someone entered the office, exited, stole vehicle parts, and damaged another vehicle before leaving the scene. Property stolen is reportedly a catalytic converter valued at $250.00. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact PSP New Castle.

THEFT OF VEHICLE PARTS:
On August 13th at 3:00PM, PSP New Castle were dispatched to Ferrante Upholstering, Route 18, New Beaver Borough, for a report of a Theft. The investigation showed that unknown subject(s) removed the catalytic converter, valued at $250.00, from a 1999 Ford vehicle before leaving the scene. Anyone with information should contact PSP New Castle.

DUI:
Dwayne Howell, 42, of Pittsburgh, is charged with DUI after an accident involving a 45-year-old Ellwood City man on August 25th. According to a report, at approximately 3:23 a.m., a silver 2010 Acura TL driven by Howell was traveling eastbound within the westbound lanes on Route 422 near its intersection with PA-376 when it collided into a 2002 Chevy Silverado driven by the Ellwood City victim. Howell fled the scene. Police responded and later located Howell who was found to have an outstanding warrant for possession of marijuana originating out of Mercer County; and additionally, suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and hit and run, among several other violationis. Howell was placed under arrest. No injuries were reported amidst the collision.

DUI:
Darcy Young, 43, of Ellwood City, is charged with DUI after a traffic stop on April 22nd at approximately 1:28 a.m. According to a criminal complaint, police observed a vehicle fail to come to a complete stop at the intersection of 5th Street and Lawrence Avenue. Police initiated a traffic stop and observed Young with an odor of alcohol emenating about her and an open container of beer. Young furnished an expired insurance card. Young was subjected to a field sobriety test for which she failed and was placed under arrest for DUI.

DUI:
James Hammond, 27, of Baden, is charged with DUI after a traffic stop on July 30th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 1:18 a.m., Ellwood City Police observed a Buick Regal make an illegal U-turn near Fifth Street and the vehicle was found to not have insurance. Police pursued and conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Crescent Avenue and 6th Street. Hammond was found dazed and slow to respond to questioning. Hammond consented to a search and police recovered marijuana from the center console and a used naloxone inside the glove box. Hammond was asked to perform a field sobriety test for which he failed. Hammond was placed under arrest for DUI and Use/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and transported to ECPD and refused a blood draw.

DUI:
Donald Frelin ll, 33, of Ellwood City, is charged with DUI after a incident on August 20th at 1:28AM. According to a report, PSP New Castle observed the involved vehicle, namely a 200 Honda Civic, stopped at the intersection of SR-65 and Squaw Run Road, Wayne Township, Lawrence County. Upon approach to the vehicle, the operator was found to be operating under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody. The operator did submit to chemical testing before being released.

DUI:
James Jenkins, 46, on New Castle, is charged with DUI after a traffic stop on August 8th at 12:41AM. According to a report, PSP New Castle imitated a traffic stop where the driver was found to be operating under the influence of alcohol. Charges are pending chemical testing results.
