Ellwood City School District Closed Friday For District-Wide Safety Training

The Ellwood City Area School District will be closed on Friday, September 2nd for a district-wide safety training.

The district will also remained closed on Monday, September 5th in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

“The entire faculty and staff will be participating in an active shooter training on Friday,” said Superintendent Wesley Shipley in a statement. “Because this training is designed for all employees of the district, all district offices and buildings will be closed for the entire day on Friday.”

Shipley advised to not be alarmed if you see an increased number of police personnel and vehicles around Lincoln Jr/Sr High School from 7:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

Additionally, and in a statement made available on the district website, Shipley announced that recent CDC guidance for COVID-19 is that we will no longer complete contact tracing at the schools.  Students who may come in contact with the Covid virus no longer need to quarantine and miss school.  Students who become sick may return to school after just five days if they are free of fever.  Masks are optional for students and staff that wish to wear them and we will support each individual’s choice to wear or not wear a mask.

“We thank you for your cooperation as we strive to provide the safest learning environment for our students and staff,” added Shipley.

The Ellwood City Area School District is located at 501 Crescent Ave., Ellwood City, PA 16117 and can be reached at 724-752-1591 or by visiting www.ellwood.k12.pa.us.
