According to information made available by the borough, the Ellwood City Borough Council is advertising the vacancies on the following Boards and Commissions of Ellwood City Borough: Zoning Hearing Board, Zoning Hearing Board Alternate, Planning Commission, Economic Development Authority, Civil Service Commission, Civil Service Commission Alternate, EC Library Board, and Recreation Board. Annual Richard Hogue Blood Drive A Success

The 8th Annual Richard Hogue Blood Drive was held recently in memory of Richard Hogue to give the gift of life to others. “It was a wonderful event, eight years of keeping Richard Hogue’s memory alive,” said Mayor Anthony J. Bernstine Stops Anti-Gun Amendments

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine’s (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) motion to table all amendments associated with Senate Bill 565 passed the House of Representatives today. The legislation proposes to preserve the constitutional right of legal gun owners by eliminating the requirement of a License to Carry a Firearm (LTCF) should an individual wish to possess or “carry” a firearm on their person in a concealed fashion. If passed, Pennsylvania would be the 22nd constitutional carry state in the United States. 2021 Halloween Costume Contest Winners!

Congratulations to the 2021 winners of the annual EllwoodCity.org Halloween Costume Contest! The grand prize winner of the EllwoodCity.org contest was Lorenzo Geminiani, 9 months, and our second place winner was Connor Mannion. Lorenzo, dressed as the Lion from Wizard of Oz, collected over 260 likes to earn the first place cash prize. Ellwood City Council Approves Street Vacations to Make Way for Sheetz Store

Ellwood City Borough Council voted to approve the vacation of Locust Way from Fountain Avenue to Glen Avenue and Fountain Avenue from 5th Street to Locust Way during Monday’s regular meeting. The only “No” vote came from Councilman Jim Barry. Councilwoman Judith Dici was absent from the meeting. During a public hearing of the Ellwood City Borough Council on November 8, officials representing Sheetz presented plans for the proposed store. Backyard Composting & Rain Barrel Workshop Planned

The Lawrence County Conservation District and the Lawrence-Mercer Recycling/Solid Waste Department are partnering on a workshop about backyard composting and stormwater management. The class is set for Tuesday evening, November 16, 2021 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  It will be held at the Albert P. Gettings Annex (the former church) across the street from the Lawrence County Courthouse.  Attendees can enter through the doors facing the courthouse on Milton Street. ECASD: Mask Requirement to Continue

Although Governor Tom Wolf announced a possible end to the mask mandate in schools, the filing of an appeal has forced the Ellwood City Area School District to stay the course and require masks to be worn. During Thursday evening’s board of directors meeting, Superintendent Wesley Shipley said that appeal locked the mandate back in place. “Until January 17 the mask mandate will stay in place,” he said. Ellwood City Native Neupauer To Become BC3’s Longest-Serving President On November 15

(Butler, PA) Dr. Nick Neupauer next week will become the longest-serving president in the history of western Pennsylvania’s first community college. Neupauer, Butler County Community College’s eighth president, on Nov. 15 will pass the tenure of Dr. Thomas Ten Hoeve, the college’s second president. Ten Hoeve was named BC3’s president in May 1970, five years after the institution of higher education was founded, and served 5,219 days to September 1984. Neupauer began Aug. 1, 2007. The Wampum Area 49th Annual Christmas Parade is Saturday, December 4, 2021, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Wampum Area Christmas Parade Committee is still accepting sign-ups for treat bags.
