POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

ASSAULT/BURGLARY:
A 17-year-old teenager from Wampum is charged with Assault With a Weapon after a Burglary attempt on January 6th. According to a police report, and at approximately 1:51 a.m., police say he broke into a residence on McKim Way, Franklin Township, Beaver County and assaulted two people inside. PA State Police say a 41-year-old man who owned the home noticed a burglar walking down the stairs of his house, later identified as the
17-year-old boy. The teen and the homeowner began fighting in the living room. The noise from the fight woke the homeowner’s son, a 17-year-old male, who came to help his father. In the fight, troopers say the burglar bit the son on the leg, got access to a pocket knife and cut the homeowner’s cheek with it. The burglar ran away from the house but returned to the area later and was taken into custody the report relates.

CRIMINAL TRESPASSING:
Tyler Frank, 40, of New Castle, is charged with Criminal Trespassing after an incident on January 7th. According to a criminal complaint, Ellwood City police received a call for a trespasser on Loop Street and the caller related Frank was looking into apartment windows and he is not suppose to be in the area because he is on a trespass list.  Patrol received additional 911 calls about Frank loitering through back yards and around houses in the area of the 700 block of Pershing Street. Police were able to locate Frank on Pershing Street and informed Frank he is not permitted in the Walnut Ridge Housing complex as he has been caught and warned many times previous the report relates. Police placed Frank under arrest and transported him to the police station and later released him on foot to a nearby friends house.

THEFT OF SERVICES:
On December 31st at approximately 3:31PM police were dispatched to New Beaver Borough for a report of theft of services. Upon investigation, the arrestee identified as Matt Meyhew, utilized a dumpster without permission. Meyhew was cited, according to reports.

THEFT:
Michael Henry, 42, of Ellwood City, is charged with theft after an incident on December 23rd. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 9:20 p.m., police were dispatched to Glen Avenue for a reported theft involving Henry. A male victim told police he had seen a man take his Amazon packages off of his porch. Police then contacted Henry via a cell phone number they had on file and advised him to return the packages to the EDCP, according to reports.

ACCIDENT:
The EC Fire Department arrived at the scene of a one vehicle accident on Wednesday morning at approximately 7:30 a.m. to find a truck crashed into the house on Orchard Ave. According to reports, the male driver lost control of his truck after having a medical emergency and the truck then caught on fire. ECFD Fire Chief said one firefighter and two police officers worked to keep the truck fire at bay and break the truck windows, which then allowed the driver to be pulled out to safety. The family of the driver who lived at residence Orchard Ave. left their house unharmed. There was no fire damage to the house and the family’s parked SUV caught on fire and was destroyed the report relates The driver was transported by Noga Ambulance Service to a nearby hospital for treatment and was responsive.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT:
Stephen Shriver, 38, of Darlington, is charged with Domestic Assault after an incident on December 30th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 6:00PM, police were dispatched to 4th street in Darlington for a report of an inactive domestic assault. Upon investigation, it was reported that one Stephen Shiver, 38, of Darlington had assaulted a female victim, 32, of Darlington causing minor injury. Shiver was located while on scene and arrested. Shiver was housed at the Beaver County jail for Domestic Related Simple Assault and Harassment according to reports.

PUBLIC DRUNKENESS:
George Lordi, 63, of Ellwood City, is charged with Public Drunkeneness and Loitering after an incident on January 4th. According to a criminal complaint, officers received a call that an intoxicated male was attempting to enter a house on Joffree St. Ext and is on the porch. Police responded tot he location and found the male, later identified as Lordi, who when advised to stand up could barely keep his balance. Police placed Lordi under arrest and upon search found empty pill bottles and an empty liquor bottle on Lordi, with the pill bottles later found to be a schedule 4 narcotics.

DUI:
On December 9th of 2023 at 1:11 a.m., police initiated a traffic stop on 13th street on a Pontiac G6 and the operator was found to be impaired. A juvenile allegation was prepared and is pending according to report.

DUI:
On December 17th at approximately 10:04PM, officers observed a vehicle fail to come to a stop at the intersection of Fourth St and Franklin Ave. Officers pulled the vehicle over and identified the operator as Joel Jaskolka, 45, of Ellwood City. Jaskolka presented slurred speech and slow movement upon being observed by police which prompted them to perform a standard field sobriety test for which he failed. Jaskolka was placed under arrest for driving under the influence according to report.

DUI:
On December 15th at approximately 12:01 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop. Upon contact with the operator of the vehicle, identified as Joel Shaffer, 56, of Ellwood City, police observed behavior relating to intoxication. Police conducted a field sobriety test which Shaffer failed and was arrested for a DUI according to reports.

DUI:
On November 14th at approximately 9:26 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop and observed a strong smell of marijuana. Police asked the operator of the vehicle, Richard Graffius, 46 of Salem, Ohio to step out and preform a field sobriety test which he failed. Police then searched the vehicle and found narcotics. Graffius was then transported to a nearby hospital for a blood draw according to reports. The passenger, Joshua Griffen, 30, of Damascus Ohio, was released after police took his information.
