Ellwood City Wolverines Emerge Victorious Against Springdale

Ellwood City used double-double efforts from Broc Boariu and Sean Busby to emerged victorious 65-56 against Springdale Wednesday night at Lincoln High School. Busby finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds (6 offensive) to power the Wolverine offense attack that ack with a vengeance in the final two quarters, after being behind early in the game, trailing 30-26 at the half. Lincoln gained on their opponent late in the game, scoring a game-high 23 points in the third quarter. Ellwood City Wolverines Lose to Quaker Valley

Leetsdale, PA – Wolverine guard Anthony Roth put 21 points on the scoreboard, but Lincoln fell to Quaker Valley 88-57 Tuesday Night in a relatively high-scoring affair. Roth led Ellwood City Wolverines offense with 21 points, including 12 during the second period. He also contributed seven rebounds and one block. Roth spent plenty of time at the charity stripe, connecting on 14 of 16 free throw attempts to boon his scoring total. SOI Kids Christmas Treat Event

The SOI Christmas treat for kids will be this Saturday, December 16 at 2:00 pm at the Sons of Italy social hall in Ellwood City. This event is open to the public. Children will sing Christmas Carols and Santa will be there to hand out treats to all the children.

House Approves Bernstine Bill to Help Seniors Stay in Their Homes

HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives Monday unanimously approved legislation, authored by Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence), which would make it easier for seniors to maintain their independence and receive care in their homes. “A disparity in Pennsylvania law is limiting access to in-home care and actually forcing some seniors into nursing homes when home care would have been more appropriate, preferred and less expensive,” Bernstine said. Currently, when an individual applies for Medicaid, he or she can be “presumed eligible” for nursing home services and receive those services immediately while their Medicaid application is being fully reviewed. Will It Be A White Christmas in Ellwood?

Winter weather is in the forecast for the next several upcoming weeks – a complete change-up of last year’s weather around this time. Last year we experienced a good portion of December in temperatures upwards of 60-some degrees, with December 26th, 2016, holding a high temperature record of 62 degrees. Slippery Rock University Receives Grant to Train Veterans to be Teachers, Bernstine Says

State Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) announced that Slippery Rock University, along with West Chester University in southeastern part of the state, will receive more than $272,000 in funding under the federal Troops to Teachers grant program. “I believe the extensive training, vast experience and patriotism of our nation’s veterans make them excellent candidates to lead our classrooms,” Bernstine said. “Programs like Troops to Teachers help us give back in a small way to our veterans while putting some of our most upstanding citizens before our future generations.” The Troops to Teachers grant program, managed by the Defense Activity for Nontraditional…
