GoFundMe for Murdered Franklin Township Man’s Funeral

Franklin Township resident, Alan Patterson, was murdered Christmas Eve – the day before Christmas and his birthday – after a dispute with his wife. According to reports, Patterson was stabbed to death outside of his trailer in Franklin Township by his wife, Krystine, who then tried to flee the scene by foot but was later caught at a neighboring trailer. Patterson’s family has since arranged a GoFundMe page to not only help with funeral costs, but also to help support the family in this time of need. Ellwood City Wolverines Fall Short Against New Brighton

Ellwood City’s pre-Christmas game against New Brighton, 12/22/2017 Despite Anthony Roth putting 26 points on the board, Lincoln lost to New Brighton 52-50. New Brighton (PA) locked in the win in the fourth quarter on a three pointer from Thomas Kirby. Despite a strong finish, with 16 points in the final quarter, Ellwood City Wolverines failed to secure the win. Great play from the field made Roth stand out, as he made 50% (10-for-20) of shots attempted as well as 50% (6-for-12) of threes attempted. Peace Light in Ellwood City

In early December, the Peace Light began its journey from the Grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem. The flame has been burning for over 1,000 years. Ellwood got the light by way of the Mason Dixon Boy Scout Council of Hagerstown, Maryland. You may get this light by bringing a candle to the DaySring Church on 6th Street on Saturday from 10a.m. to 1p.m. then Saturday at Habitual Vape & Skate Shop at 505 Lawrence Ave. from 1p.m. to 7:45p.m. The light will be at 123 Orchard Ave. on Sunday from 1p.m. to 3p.m.

Weekly High School Basketball Team Recaps

This week the Ellwood City Boys Varsity team played against Freedom and Steel Valley earlier this week, collecting victories in both games and bringing their overall score to 5-2.  The Wolverines ousted the Bulldogs 78-62 on Monday and defeated Steel Valley 54-42 on Tuesday. Ellwood City boys will open up section play tonight hosting the New Brighton Lions starting at 7:30p.m. Riverside’s Boys Varsity team played against Aliquippa on Wednesday, losing to the top ranked and undefeated ‘Quips 66-35. Corona D’italia Lodge #807 100th Anniversary Recap

Corona D’italia Lodge #807 celebrated the 100th anniversary of the organization of one of the first Italian Societies for women. Guided by the late John Statti, whose wife, Mary, was a polio victim, urging the women to form a social network. The Lodge began with 77 Charter members on December 31, 1917. The Charter organizers were Sylvia Bellora, who served as the first Venerable{President) Rola Pesce and Luigia Rubino. Recognized as the Founders are, Bellora, Angelina Fraschetti, Vittoria Port, Frances DeMartini, Mary DiThomas, Ida Colavincenzo, Lulu Bevivino and Dena Parascenzo. Progress Coming to Ellwood City: Redevelopment of Lawrence Avenue Properties

The area of 509-515 Lawrence Avenue has been awarded to Lutz & Myers for redevelopment. State Representative Aaron Bernstine posted a live video feed of himself accompanied by Ron Lutz and Ellwood City Revitalization member Brad Ovial explaining the details of the sale and plans for the 10,000+ square foot development. The redevelopment has been part of the ongoing Ellwood City Revitalization projects to better the community and attract more business and consumers. Check out the video below for more information:

Free Apprenticeship Readiness Program for Students Set for February

Butler, PA- Butler County Community College will offer a free month-long apprenticeship readiness program employing a nationally recognized curriculum designed to prepare 16 participants for applications with Western Pennsylvania building and construction trade unions, according to Kathleen Strobel, BC3’s coordinator of business training. BC3’s apprenticeship readiness program, like that offered by three other Western Pennsylvania community colleges through May, is intended to assist those interested in the trades to successfully apply to and be accepted into tuition-free apprenticeship training programs with 16 unions and their partner contractors, Strobel said. Ellwood City Wolverines Defeat Steel Valley

Munhall, PA– Lincoln won 55-42 against Steel Valley on Wednesday with the help of Anthony Roth, who scored 25 points, including 17 points in a decisive 3rd quarter for the Wolverines. Ellwood City Wolverines clinched their lead in the third quarter on a free throw from Roth. Lincoln came back with a vengeance in the final two quarters, after being behind early in the game, trailing 23-19 at the half.
