Gunnar Boehm’s five-RBI outburst sealed the deal in Riverside’s 11-1 mercy rule victory over Ellwood City on Friday afternoon at Dan Oliastro Field. Boehm showed timely hitting on Friday, driving in five runs on only two hits including the grand slam in the pivotal, 7-run 4th inning to lead Riverside. Boehm also doubled in a run in the sixth. Three Ellwood Students To Perform in “Fiddler on the Roof”

PORTERSVILLE, PA — Several area students will carry on the musical tradition of “Fiddler on the Roof” at 7 p.m. April 26-28 at Portersville Christian School. Performers from Ellwood City are Danny Schlachter, Kaylin Kingston and Faith Patterson. New Castle area participants include Aubrey Hollerman, Josh Rupert, Aidan Ramsey, Ben Hurta and Christian Cater. Leah Hoffer of Beaver Falls also appears in the show while Julia Mangiapane of Fombell serves on the stage crew. The undefeated Avonworth Antelopes scored in extra innings to bounce Ellwood City baseball team on Wednesday while the Avonworth softball team put up a scoring barrage in dismissing the Riverside softball team.  Despite two homeruns, the Ellwood City softball team fell to Steel Valley after a 3-run seventh inning proved a third and final lead change. Bats Blistered as Riverside Panthers Defeats Beaver Falls, 14-9 Both pitching staffs had their hands full on Tuesday in a high-scoring affair where the Riverside Lady Panthers bested Beaver Falls, 14-9. The Panthers (1-1 overall) opened up scoring with a six-run first inning and crept out to a 9-2 lead before the Tigers were able to respond. Beaver Falls scored four runs in the third inning. Council- Volleyball Lights Raise Question of Park Hours

At Monday’s Ellwood City Borough council agenda meeting, council member George Celli questioned a motion to purchase an LED lightning package for the volleyball court in Ewing Park at a cost of $9,068.98. Celli felt it was unwise to install lights for one court without considering the costs of installing lights for other amenities, such as the tennis court and skateboard park. In addition, he felt lights would nullify the “dawn to dusk” hours of the park. Councilman Suggests Resolution to Protest House Bill 1405

At Monday’s Ellwood City Borough Council agenda meeting, council member George Celli proposed a resolution to oppose PA House Bills 1405 and 2030. Both bills would set new regulations on the borough’s electric department, including restricting council’s ability to shift electric fund revenue to the general fund. If council passed Celli’s resolution, it would indicate council’s opposition to the legislation but have no legal impact. Council added the resolution to the agenda but no other members spoke for or against it. The bills are sponsored by State Rep. The Riverside Panthers easily dispatched New Brighton 11-1 on Monday afternoon at Dan Oliastro Field. Riverside (3-1 overall) got on the board in the first inning with some power as Austin Dambach smashed a 2-run home run to stake the Panthers to an early lead. After adding on in the second and fourth innings, the Panthers exploded for four runs in the sixth inning. Dambach, Danny Fox, and Nick Ottaviani powered the big inning with RBIs.
