EC Wolverines Clinches The Lead, Riverside Panthers Nabs The Win

Ellwood City Wolverines Clinches Lead in Fifth Inning to Defeat Mohawk Area Ellwood City Wolverines took the lead late in the game in a 6-4 victory over Mohawk Area on Wednesday. The game was tied at two with Ellwood City Wolverines batting in the top of the fifth when Sammy DiCaprio singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs. Ellwood City Wolverines opened up scoring in the first inning. An error scored one run for Ellwood City Wolverines. Bernstine: Ellwood City Electric Legislation Clears Major Hurtle

HARRISBURG – Taking the first major step toward protecting local residents from skyrocketing electric bills, the state House of Representatives today approved legislation, authored by Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence), to bring additional oversight to the business and spending practices of Ellwood City Borough’s electric company. “Today’s vote was a big win for Ellwood City residents,” Bernstine said. “We are one step closer to stopping the egregious behaviors of Ellwood City electric through legislative oversight.” House Bill 2030 would require more uniform and reasonable rate structures to be adopted by the borough-run electric company. EC Junior High Softball Team Runs Record to 4-0 Ambridge

Another day, another mercy rule shortened victory for the Lady Wolverines. This time, Ambridge was the victim of a 13-1 five inning win at Stiefel Park.   The offense was potent once again as eight different players pounded out 10 hits on the day. Kali Barnett and Maddie Hicks led the way with two singles apiece. Katelyn Wehman and Aliya Garroway each added doubles with Wehman’s shot one bouncing the fence in left field to plate 3 runners. Ellwood City 2018-19 cheerleaders were announced at the annual tea party earlier this month. The tea party held in the high school cafeteria, is a semi-formal gathering for the girls and their mothers. House Bill 2030 Passes, Ellwood Council Hires Lobbyist to Oppose

Yesterday, House Bill 2030, which modifies the Ellwood City borough electric department, passed in a 106-89 vote. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Aaron Bernstine, R-10, New Beaver, will now pass to the state senate. The bill will prevent the borough from transferring funds from the electric department to the General Fund and includes additional provisions for consumer protection. The bill’s language limits its impact to boroughs providing electric to more than one county. Rod & Gun Club Announces Final Turkey Shoot Winners

The Ellwood/Wampum Rod and Gun Club had it;’s final turkey shoot for the season on April 10. The winners were Kurtis Kelly, Jerry Sadler, Chuck Bingle, Frank Miller and Howard Watson. Howard Allison and Carmen Bucci were double winners. Chuck Bingle won the door prize. The winner of the spring season’s door prize was Taran Spielvogel. The Rod Land Gun Club is announcing it’s summer trap shoot, which will begin May 1 and continue every Tuesday until August 28th. Sign-ups begin at 6:00pm and each round is $3.00. Ellwood City Football Alumni Dinner Scheduled

The Ellwood City Football Boosters club will be organizing and holding an alumni dinner on Saturday May 12, 2018 at Wayne Township Firehall. Social hour begins at 5:00pm with dinner following at 6:00pm, served by Smokin’ Dave’s BBQ.  The cost for the event is $30.00 and RSVPs must be received by May 4th. PHOTOS: Four RBI Day for Mittler Leads Wolverines Rout Over Riverside

Four runs batted in from Reagan Mittler helped lead Wolverines past Riverside in a 20-5 rout on Saturday. Mittler drove in runs on a single in the first and a double in the second. The Wolverines (3-2 overall) fired up the offense in the first inning, when Anna Ferrucci singled scoring the game’s first run.  Ellwood City scored in every inning thereafter including a 9-run outburst in the second frame. Ellwood City School Board April Meeting Brief

Festival Parking Lot Issue Resolved The board passed a motion resolving an ongoing parking issue with the festival committee. District organizations, such as the football boosters, have historically used festival car parking as a fundraising method. However, a new district policy concerning licensing/subcontracting and confusion over which organizations the festival would award the parking lots to resulted in a delay in the board granting the lots to the festival committee. The motion granted the festival committee use of the district’s parking lots in Ewing Park, provided school organizations have first choice to use the lots. The motion also temporarily suspended…
