PHOTOS: Street, Wolverines Earn Another Upset In WPIAL Playoff Journey

The Lady Wolverines surged in the fourth inning to earn another upset in its WPIAL Class-3A playoff journey. Ellwood City beat #3 seeded Waynesburg 7-4 on Thursday to advance to the WPIAL semifinals. Ellwood City beat higher seeded Deer Lakes on Tuesday. After exchanging runs early, junior Mollie Street helped Ellwood City stage a four-run fourth inning to pull away from Waynesburg. Gibbons, Wolverines Advance In WPIAL Playoffs With 2-1 Extra Inning Victory

Ryan Gibbons spent his time on the mound avoiding bats with an outstanding pitching effort and knocked in the game’s winning run at the plate, putting the bat on the ball and putting the Wolverines in the WPIAL quarterfinals. Gibbons, who struck out 14 in eight innings of one-hit ball, put down a squeeze bunt to score the winning run from third base to propel the Wolverines to an opening round 2-1 victory over Keystone Oaks Thursday afternoon. Back 2 Back: Upcoming Annual Summer Band Bash Now A Two Day Affair

With many people in the community disappointed that for the second year in a row due to COVID, The Ellwood City Festival has been cancelled, the community now can look forward to another fun upcoming event. The Ellwood City Summer Band Bash, a two-day event, will take place at Robert E. Rodgers Memorial Park in Ellport on June 18th and 19th. Bernstine Announces Local School District to Receive Ag and Youth Grant

HARRISBURG – Through the Pennsylvania Ag and Youth Grant Program, which Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) supported, a school district located in Lawrence County will receive a grant to help promote student development in agriculture, community leadership, vocational training and peer fellowship. The Perry Lower Intermediate School in Ellwood City was awarded a $7,482 grant to enhance and extend the Garden at Perry Project. The project started three years ago in the back portion of the school. Riverside Boys Track Collects Four WPIAL Individual Championships

The Riverside boys track team collected a total of four championships at the WPIAL Individual Championship meet at Slippery Rock University on Wednesday. Colby Belczyk put on a show. Belczyk won the 800m in 1:54.41 setting a new school record, breaking his own record of 1:54.99 and then teamed up with Alden Wetzel, Brody Barton, and Ty Fluharty, to win the 4×400 relay team with a personal best time of 3:27.65. The Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office recently announced the execution of two search warrants by the Special Investigations Unit that took place in New Castle according to its social media page. For the sixth consecutive season, the Wolverine softball team won a first round playoff game. GOT BOOKS?: Riverside Elementary Hosts Book Drive

Riverside Elementary School is hosting their annual book drive for students in K-5. Each year the PTO sponsors the AR Store for students in K-5 as part of the reading program. AR stands for Accelerated Reader and the kids can choose books within their reading range and take a short quiz after finishing their book.  Riverside has used this program with great success for several years. Vision Ministries will be hosting the fourth annual Braveheart Testimonial Dinner on May 23rd. The dinner will take place at the New Englander Banquet Center.
